oh cool!

When I was thinking about trains to Whistler I was thinking of these:

"We can't stop here. This is bat country."

kitten

Nope.  This one is a steam engine, and quite old.

Ah I knew about the steam engine, I was thinking that in the future BC needs a high speed rail network. Less cars on mountain roads is better all around.

Canadian National Railway has rail lines through B.C. that are used mainly for transporting freight.  Their safety record is getting poorer every year, it seems, but they own the rail lines.  There is also West Coast Express that brings commuters into the city, but there aren't that many runs per day.  I think it is only four runs a day, but I'm not sure.  There is a lot of space between places in B.C., and it would be extremely expensive to run rail lines through if only four or five people can be expected to board the train on any given day.

I know but this century will be the decline of oil, we can't expect a car to get us from place to place. So a high speed rail link to places like Kelowna, Kamloops, Calgary must be explored because we are going into an era where oil will be scarce and we must conserve as much as possible.

I think they're expanding west coast service. I remember reading it somewhere.

Where you live there is high density population.  Towns string out along the way with little distance in between.  Here you might find it hard to believe the distance between one settled place and another.  Another thing is that for a good part of the year the lines are snow-covered, with frequent rock slides and avalanches.  Road maintenance is costly, and track maintenance would be expensive as well.  It is probably cheaper to fly from Vancouver to inland cities than to drive or take a train.  Check a map for distances and you will see what I mean.  Did you see Ms. Pitbull's pics about the landslide that has closed access to her town for several days?  These things aren't exactly rare with all the hills and mountains.  That's why running a rail line across Canada was such a huge acheivement.

Sorry....back out to do a little clean up.

Oh, that's so pretty!  I had no idea what you were talking about, but that would be a beautiful addition to the house.  Do you plan to get a couple of them?  Do they hang from the eaves?

yup I saw those. But what happens when we don't have the fuel to fuel the planes? There is an end game with gasoline. Last time I checked they aren't trying to make airplanes run on anything other then oil.

While a long rail connection through out the region isn't in the near future, trains up to Whistler and Pemberton can be done, expansion of West Coast, high speed rail link in the Windsor-Quebec corridor.

We've got to find other modes to get around that's all.

They're nice......they replace these......

Yes I want 2 of them.  A friend had them a couple years ago.....she brought them back from Malaysia or Thailand or somewhere......can't remember.  I've been looking for them ever since, and I notice they are finally available here.  (at a substantially higher price than she paid....*cry)

That will take money, and remember our population of taxpayers is only about a tenth of yours, if that.  Health care takes up a fair amount of our budget, which isn't the case in the States.  It's a matter of priorities.

Who the heck wants to go to Pemberton.   [img style="CURSOR: pointer" onclick=url(this.src); src="http://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/more/bigs/c008.gif" border=0]

That is a marvellous idea, P.C.  I guess if they are shipped here there are all the costs of shipping to drive the price up.  But they are so lovely...much prettier than a drainpipe.
