I wasn't going to post this here but since it is "nothing interesting to say ..."

I had heard that a duck's quack does not echo - but alas it appear to be a myth ...

http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Does_the_quack_of_a_duck_echo
Claim: A duck's quack doesn't echo, and no one knows why. [/p] Status: False. [/p] The myth [/p] A duck's quack certainly does echo around in a reverberation chamber, so a duck's quack does echo, which leads to the most interesting question. Why did the myth arise? There are a few possible explanations that I can think of: [/p] [/p][ul][li] The quack does echo, but it is usually too quiet to hear. When you want to hear an echo, you usually make a very loud noise to make sure the reflection can be heard. But a duck quacks too quietly, so the reflection is too quiet to hear. [/li][li] Ducks don't quack near reflecting surfaces. You need a large reflecting surface, a mountain or building for the sound to reflect off. Maybe ducks don't hang around reflecting surfaces. [/li][li] It is hard to hear the echo of a sound which fades in and fades out. [/li][/ul]As with many myths it's hard to say how or why they got started but this myth has been "busted" in several scientific experiments. [/p] Another view: [/p] Mine certainly do - however, they are CALL DUCKS. I don't know if that makes a difference. [/p] Another view: [/p]A team at Sanford University recently did some research to get to the bottom of the problem with the help of willing volunteer, Daisy the duck. They found that a duck's quack does echo, but it is quite hard to hear the echo because of the quality of the quack sound. A sound that fades in and out (like a duck quack) makes an echo which can become mixed up with the original sound being made. This means it is hard to distinguish one from the other. [/p]The other reason the myth may have arisen is because you don't often find ducks hanging around places where you commonly get echoes, like cliffs on a beach, or large cathedrals! [/p] [/p]
[a name="In_a_way_you're_rong._A_ducks_quack_would_echo_if_in_a_hall_that_echos" class="h2heading h3" style="color: rgb(0, 0, 0);"] In a way you're wrong. A ducks quack would echo if in a hall that echos [/a]
I am not able to be here very often at the moment.

Ginkgo, yes that's what I thought. I was there yesterday on my way back as it was on my list. Some petroglyphs indeed. Not a lot as usual in Washington States, so I walked the interpretive trail. Petrified wood in concrete cages. Quite pathetic but it seems necessary to make sure people don't steal the few pieces left. Well at least I finally visited it, as it was probably the 3rd time I pass in front of it on my way to Yellowstone and Glacier (Montana) and never stopped. Didn't took pics. Better stuff seen repetitively in Arizona, including just 3 months ago.

All right -  well too bad about the cages ... good to know that it lacks that Je ne sais quoi (that's french you know - but I had to get my 10 year old to help me with the spelling)

Lil Me

I really have nothing interesting to say...

I shower at 6:30am.  If I put my hair up in a clip, it is still wet at 9:00 pm when I take my hair down.
