The last one IS good for the environment. Re-using and re-purposing is the way to go. If you can't use it, there is usually someone who can, so it keeps it out of the landfill while getting maximum use. I think we're too quick to turf things the second a newer glitzier model comes in. Keeping with the trends is not only expensive, it's wasteful too.
