Have any of you read the books at least ?

I did a number of years ago but to my dismay everyone that glorified J.R, Tolkien i just can not understand. I found the books to be dry, almost humourless and I had difficulty reading through out it, I could not concentrate on it. I continuously had to reread pages to understand better what was being said and even then bah. It is just not my cup of tea. I would sooner read Asimov or Heinlein, before reading Tolkien again... Any of Dickens old English novels makes for a better read... But this is just my thoughts on that... and My Last Word
