Oh crap. Ja, my hubby just mentioned that. Now the plant has closed again. Go figure. I don't think I can eat Maple Food products any  more.

  Here's the list of products: [A href="vny!://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/corpaffr/recarapp/2008/list97be.shtml"]vny!://www.inspection.gc.ca/english/corpaffr/recarapp/2008/list97be.shtml[/A]

What a shame for that company.

I will eat their products.  Every company tests for Listeria....every company detects it....and then every company does something about it....on a regular basis.  But this recent 'trace' detection of listeria has been magnified because of the recent disaster.

"Maple Leaf Foods is right. Listeria is indeed almost everywhere."

Some experts suggest listeria may have developed resistance to certain cleaners.  It may not be an indication of careless maintainance or lack of cleanliness.

Listeria is present throughout our environment, found in soils, water, foods, sewage and many other places. There seem to be conflicting claims about whether listeria can ever be effectively kept out of food.

Food experts say there will always be a small level of listeria in processed food products.

Wow someones playing catchup.  :)

No matter how much you attempt to keep things sterile, there will always be mistakes, and not all causes are known until something triggers it.

I will eat maple leaf meats again when they are shown to be ok.

Hey! When they first come out again, maybe they will be cheaper for a little while? LOL.

lol....I AM playing catchup.

From what I've read, this second 'outbreak' can't even be classed as a 'mistake'......according to all the studies, it is quite normal.......and with the possibilities that the strain has become resistant to the cleaners....perhaps the original outbreak may not have necessarily been a 'mistake' either.  It has spurred much research....and they are learning more and more about alternate possibilities.

Maple Leaf has been around for a long long time....and I can't see them being careless at this stage of the game.

I guess what I'm saying is ....if the cause IS in fact rooted in the bacteria becoming 'immune' to the cleaners....that even if they tripled the amount of inspectors, it wouldn't make a difference.  It would be a case of putting out a fire with gasoline.  No ?

I'm just trying so desperately to defend them.  I REALLY feel badly for this situation. [img style="CURSOR: pointer" onclick=url(this.src); src="vny!://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/more/bigs/c020.gif[/img]
