Very True Tenkani.. over here its all the similar style of chinese food.. However when I was over there I was amazed at the varieties depending on teh region.. I loved alot of the types of dishes where I was.. totally different than what we are used to over here. Iliked the way the fish was cooked there compared to here.

Ahhh, it's nice that we can talk about Chinese food without fear of horror ensuing.

[POST EDITED FOR YOUR PLEASURE]
For thou art with me; thy cream and thy sugar they comfort me
Thou preparest a carafe before me in the presence of Juan Valdez
Thou anointest my day with pep; my mug runneth over
Surely richness and taste shall follow me all the days of my life
And I will dwell in the house of coffee forever.

I lost my train of thought.  Darn.  :P

Ok, now I remember.

Visitors who come here from China say that "Chinatown" in Vancouver is a poor reflection of what China is really about.  They said that it's a disgrace.

Sportsdude

why do they say that pl? Is it missing the choking smog and dirty water?

I have no idea.  I think that it might be a difference of food.

tenkani

If Chinatown truly reflected mainland China I don't think most of its residents would be very happy.

Just my opinion. I'm not a big fan of authoritarian dictatorships. Of course, there is a difference between government and culture so hopefully they were referring only to the cultural apsects they see lacking from Chinatown.

I should probably censor this post as well. I'm not trying to start a fight but the Chinese government can eat my balls     >:(

EDIT: Yeah, good call SD. I just don't get it. Traditionally, the Chinese have been long-term strategic thinkers but in the last few decades the focus seems to be on short-term economic profit and to hell with the consequences. The government is engineering the destruction of the Chinese environment and it makes the Jesus cry     :(

Yeah I would say chinatown is a discrace... its cleaner and has health standards here. compared to there. theres alot of similarities.. the difference is that our government keeps some sort of health and corruption standards here.

At least the Twainese are trying to clean up their environment.
Hong Kong might be different but now that they're part of mainland China who knows.

I've heard that Japan is one of the cleanest!

Sportsdude

I so want to visit Japan.  Their transportation infrastructure is amazing.

Is Taiwan the place where they passed a law against chewing gum to protect their cherished sidewalks?

Well someone needs to visit Singapore to chew gum and kick ass.

Singapore is a little strange.  Its every neo-conservatives utopian society.
