Phew. Boy, my morning spent catching up on old threads.....

Ju Jubes? That's all you're having, right now? I finished up the last of my cake this morning. Now I'm going to try and make something else.

Any plans for Chinese New Year? Are you making something or going out to a Chinese restaurant to  celebrate?

oh when's (oh gosh my midwest vocab is coming out) Chinese New Year? I'd so do something but I don't know what to do? I guess I'll go over to the Asian Center they'd give me pointers on what to do.

Why would you want to celebrate CNY, SD?  I mean, you can but it's usually done with Chinese families since it's such a big thing. Even bigger than Christmas.

We usually celebrate on the 17th Feb with family, doing a huge feast and then go over to friend's house the following day. I'm planning on making several dishes, including crab, prawns (not the measly small one but the big fat ones), spring rolls and noodles.

I meant going to a restaurant or something. Why do non irish people celebrate St. Patricks Day? Because its fun Lise, like to have fun and experience new things/cultures.

I'm not doing anything Lise.  My mom never did anything last year so, I won't be expecting any red envelope or gourmet meal.  She'll probably make her usual and will give me some.  You know, those rice with meat wrapped in green seawee leaf thingy and some sort of dessert that I have no idea on the name.

Lise

Don't meant it like that, SD. Just curious as to why you would celebrate CNY. I've nothing against anyone celebrating it, just weird to hear you say that. By all means, go ahead and boogey away.

purelife. I don't think you're supposed to get red packets any more.

Yeah, I suppose you're right.  I was hoping. ;)

At my last job, I got $15 in red envelope money.  I thought that was awefully nice of them.

Lise

Sea wee wee.... LOL. I didn't even catch that till Gopher pointed out.

Boy, either we're getting lazy at typing or whether our minds never left the gutters, I'll never know.

LOL Gopher.  I saw my spelling mistake afterthefact and decided against modifying my post.  Too much candy does a number on your brain and sugar levels. ;)

I also had breakfast too Lise.  I'm having a litle bit of ju jubes for some sugar.  :)

Sportsdude

Well I guess it would make more sense to do something if they had a big parade I'd definately go to that.  I didn't realize you had to only be asian to celebrate cny.  I mean my family isn't mexican nor irish and we celebrate cinco de mayo and st. patties day.  Just thought it would be a cool thing to take my mom out somewhere since half her class is asian and they talk about asian things.  For example one of her kids parents owns and runs a chinese restuarant.  We could go there.

Just remember the day before CNY is reserve for families, not friends..... you could go out the following day though. Check to make sure the restaurants are open. They should.

You got $15 in red packets! Aren't you lucky, purelife! I haven't had a red packet since getting married. *sob* Now I have to dish them out left and right.

  OK. Gotta run. Lunch time!!

SD, Lise and I never told you against celebrating Chinese New Year's.  It's just a wee bit odd when I hear that because I wouldn't go around celebrating Islamic holidays.

If you're planning to celebrate it, then, all the merry wishes to you. I think that's cool.  It shows how culturally diverse you are.
