nope only know her first name but her late husband was hungarian so if she kept the hungarian name it would look very hungarian.

I didn't know that Sportsdude, although I did know that she'd once visited Hungary. Ah well, I suppose that narrows down the search a little.

Sportsdude

yeah her late husband was hungarian.

She visted hungary? darn! She never told me that. I'm on a never ending quest to find my lost family over there.

Gopher

Have you tried trawling through the Hungarian telephone directories?
A fool's paradise is better than none.

Sportsdude

nope haven't done that. they don't have my last name. Grandpa had a bunch of sisters who were much older so my cousins are probably in there 50's. All I know is somebody is an engineer in Germany, ones a doctor in Hungary. Thats all I know. It sucks.

Gopher

It does indeed, a paternal surname is more or less the key to all. Wish I could help, but it looks as though I'll not be able to be any more successful than you.

Yeah my great uncle found the doctor and engineer he's going over there I think next year. Still haven't found everyone though sucks when family gets split by war and you try to find them but you can't. I seem to be the only one that cares in this family though. Amazing history my family has and we just sit and accept it instead of finding the other half.

Sometime in the next couple of years when I'm studying abroad in Europe I'll back pack through eastern europe during the summer and I'll find them eventually. I've got things to see as well in Poland and Western Hungary that will be pretty tough emotionally but I've got to do it.

Do try to get the names from your great uncle. Tracing your ancestors is an increduibly interesting pursuit, I've managed to get one side of my family back to 1645 although I'm stuck around the 1815s with the other.

Sportsdude

I don't talk to that side of the family much (long story). I can get all the info I need off of a tape my grandpa made before he died but my dad won't let me listen to the tape because he can't handle listening to his dad's voice (its been 10 years still can't handle it).

Oh - 10 years is long enough to bury the past, it's a great pity that things should remain as they are.

Hello, my friends,

I'm back and very glad to be here.  I've certainly missed all of you.  I injured my back so it is difficult to sit at the computer, but I promise I'll keep in touch as often as possible.
