Hence the build the fence crap and go after the 11 million illegal immigrants in this country.  Neo-cons hate the fact that in 44 years this country will be half hispanic.  This is armagedon for the republicans just like it was with the civil rights issues back in the 60's.  Republicans are showing there racist ways, again. And I'm not stereotyping, the republicans speaking up against amnesty are the ones from the farming communities where if you are a differnt colour face you are ridiculed. For example my uncle calls muslims "turbin wearing terrorists" - funny thing is that Jesus wore a turbin.

He hates dirty mexicans as he calls them, he says they are the filth of the earth. And just for good measure he is part of the evangelical movement.

He is not the exception but the rule when it comes to rural communities.

even though there is no offical language yet, there will be. Just like in '04 when it was all about gays, in the future it will be all about english as the offical language.

So republicans have more things to talk about now then the 3 G's (Guns, God, and Gays)

The thing is, many repubs secretely (sometimes not so secretely) acknowledge that illegal immigrants provide a cheap agricultural labor force that is willing to put up with treatment that a citizen generally wouldn't. In other words, they are good for big business.

In addition, in recent years the Republican party has begun to court hispanic voters, recognizing that they make up the fastest growing demographic in many states. Since immigration is a key issue with hispanic voters, repubs are a bit torn on the issue.
For thou art with me; thy cream and thy sugar they comfort me
Thou preparest a carafe before me in the presence of Juan Valdez
Thou anointest my day with pep; my mug runneth over
Surely richness and taste shall follow me all the days of my life
And I will dwell in the house of coffee forever.

Which is why this is the civil right issue of this century. Republicans don't realise what a big force they just f'd with.
