Lol my buddy lives in that area.
Nope there won't be P.C., you're right. Its a by product of the consumerist driven society.
"The : I want a skytrain line to UBC" even though the population is moving eastward into the tri-cities, surrey, white rock. But I still need it to get downtown quicker.
Questioner: "Yes, but what about the people in the Tri-cities, etc."
Interviewee: I don't care, we still need a skytrain line.
Q: "Yes, but in order to do so you'd tear up all the businesses on 4th or Broadway to go all the way to UBC to serve a few thousand who live there permanently? While true in that it is a commuter school and a lot of people work at UBC, you're asking a lot that's rather a luxury for an extension all the way to UBC. A connection to Cambie or Arbutus is more feasible."
I: "Yes and that's why we need it to go all the way."
Q: "You know, if you extend it all the way, the landscape on the westside will forever change as once the older homes become labelled as 'insufficent' or 'condemned' for termites and such and with the access of a skytrain line would then see the rise of condos over homes by developers."
I: "Good, we need higher density."
Q: "Yes, but at what price and cost to the community? Do you want hight restrictions and something planned or just more glass condos?"
I: "It doesn't matter, what needs to be done, must be done."
Q: "You know we had a mayor in the 60s who thought the same way except he was all for highways everywhere. You know that beach you love, well he wanted it to be 6 lane highway to UBC... In areas where he wanted a highway, he labelled them as 'blight' and 'unsightly' "
I: "What happened?"
Q: "The people woke up."
