that might be it, I've seen more crows then anything.

I'm barging in. Hope you don't mind.

Stupid crows have abused my garden. They've been digging like crazy. I've heard that the lawns in Burnaby have been attacked by a bug investation, something called the European Chafer. Apprently the birds are digging up everyone's lawn to get to these delicacies. Smart birds but bothersome. They've taken to attacking my maple leaves (for whatever reason) then the plant markers I just put out to identify the plants. *sigh*

I love hummingbirds. We get them and I'm thinking of buying a hummingbird feeder but am unsure what you put in it. Are ants attracted to the hummingbird feeder because that's the last thing I want to attract.

They are very social birds, but with fewer nesting areas it is difficult for them to survive and breed, much less feed their young.

Very social birds indeed, Ms. kitten. They seemed to flock to one another, just calling at all hours in the morning.

Oops. Gotta run. Darn it. Take care, dearie.

Noisy indeed, but I wouldn't like to see a world without them.  They are great survivors, and if they go can we be far behind?

These guys are native to BC.

Very pretty, aren't they!  People will grow certain flowers to attract them to their gardens, and put out hanging feeders filled with sugared water.

Any wood peckers? Those guys are crazy. How they do not get head aches. What's their secret?

I don't know their secret, but B.C. Hydro  (I think it's called Terasen now) had a problem with one woodpecker in the back lane where I live that tried to set up housekeeping in a transformer.  Every day I would hear him drilling away on the metal, until one day he managed to get through and he and his mate settled in and raised a family.  They didn't disturb the nest until the chicks had grown, but then they sealed up the hole.  I haven't heard him this year, so maybe he found an easier place to settle.

OUCH!!!
A couple years ago one of them tried to make a nest on the wood panelling on my house. gosh was it loud. The bird was at it for about 3 days until it realized that there was brick behind it and left.

They aren't particularly smart, but very determined.

We have the giant Pileated Woodpeckers here.  They are massive and destructive.  I don't turn anything away from the yard....love them all.  I figure if Mother Nature has seen fit to make all their 'destructive' work, work....then it works for me.

I wish I could hear them busily at work.  I like woodpeckers.  They are such an industrious bird.  There are quite a few stellar jays here, and I think they are beautiful.
