I've just heard a peacock outside in the street.

what do peacocks do? To me they're like the homeless bird at zoos, they wander around on paths in public and not in their own displays.

what are those? Seriously though peacocks are like the bums of the zoo. They wonder the paths picking at food crumbs and take over exhibits abandoned by other animals when the zoo folks move them. Heck the famous zoo here has a giant bird cage of 1904's world fair and the peacocks aren't even in there! lol

Peahens are female peacocks, SD.  Peacocks wander freely because they don't take off like the other animals in a zoo would.  They are beautiful and harmless, and children in particular are fascinated by them.  Peahens are drab, but beautiful to peacocks.  Check it out on Google.

ah. Yeah they were always cool to chase at the zoo when I was a little guy.
I wonder how they survived in the wild, since they're so friendly.

They are friendly when people feed them.  It's like the difference between a feral cat and a domestic cat.

ah I see. cool birds though. Athough I'm a bigger fan of the flamingo, puffin and Fiordland Crested Penguin and all penguins in general.

I've always liked the albatross and the seagull.

I also like Snow Owls I see a lot of barn owls, one lives in these pines my family planted back in '88. They look like aliens. lol

Owls are interesting, but so are hummingbirds.  They are amazing birds.

don't see very many humming birds.

I've seen a few here.  I guess it depends on what flowers are growing in your area, and how much moisture they hold, but I'm not sure.

I don't see many birds around here. Might be because of the highway.

We have thousands of crows here that have been displaced by highways and construction.  Since they are territorial birds, the population is dropping quite a lot.
