By yours truly. I didn't have a deep-fryer but it worked in a pot filled with bubbling oil. I will get a deep-fryer one of these days. Anyways, I made this today, kinda tweek it a bit because my hubby and kid can't have beer in the batter. Seems to work ok.

 [LI]4 potatoes (cut into even strips)
 [LI]1 lb fish fillets (cod, pollock even salmon works fine)
 [LI]2/3 cup flour
 [LI]1/2 tsp baking soda
 [LI]1 tbsp vinegar
 [LI]2/3 cup water 
 [LI]enough oil for deep-frying

How to make the best ever fish and chips

 [LI]Heat oil in deep fryer
 [LI]Deep fry the potatoes (chips) - put in one at a time so they don't stick together in basket
 [LI]Use a long metal stick or fork to stir to keep them from sticking more
 [LI]Fry till golden brown
 [LI]Drain on paper towel
 [LI]Place potatoes in a single layer on cookie sheet and keep warm in oven
 [LI]Do the rest till you finish with all the chips
 [LI]Cut fish fillets into bite-size pieces
 [LI]PAT DRY with paper towel
 [LI]In small bowl, mix in baking soda with vinegar
 [LI]In a larger bowl, add the flour
 [LI]Slowly add in the water to the flour, whisking as you go
 [LI]Add in baking soda mix and whisk till there are no lumps
 [LI]Dip fish into batter, allow excess to drip off
 [LI]Fry about 4 to 5 pieces at a time (don't use the basket), turning fish once till golden brown
 [LI]Drain on paper towels
 [LI]You can broil the fish and chips in oven for a bit to make them warm and crispy
 [LI]Just before serving, sprinkle with sea salt or kosher salt
