Oh lakes for sure.  Love the rivers too, but they can't be still and peaceful like a lake....but a lake can be fierce like a river...and then come back to peace again.

Ocean or lake

You are both way to squeamish Gopher stew is actually made out of tortoise or turtle. it is now made with salt pork and some types of fish or other meats cause the Gopher tortoise is now an endangered species.

There is not many places one can buy turtles in this city so getting real turtle or gopher stew is just not going to happen you actually need to go to the prairies to get a ground hog (aka gopher) for ground hog stew and ground hogs/gophers are considered a rodent they are very edible, just like a rabbit.. in the case of starvation I can ell you that neighbours cat and that neighbours dog will become dinner very quickly and you wont even baulk at your dinner plate then
.

the [a href="http://www.gophertortoisecouncil.org/tortoise.htm"]gopher  tortoise[/a]...from now on referred to as gophers, managed to hang on  and survive in post ice age Florida. They actually prospered on the  sandy hills away from soggy wetlands and were an important food source  to humans for a very long time. The gophers were "fished" from their  burrows using long poles with a hook at the end to snag the shell and  pull the gopher out. It really was a staple and gopher stew was a  required dish at cookouts when I was a boy. Then Florida grew and cookie  cutter houses on tiny lots went up on those same sand hills where  gophers had lived. The gopher population dropped and they were finally  listed as a protected species by the state of Florida.

So make up your minds Rabbit stew or Gopher stew... no fair pawning it off to the next person.

Years ago, the Fort Pierce Jaycees held a Florida Picnic at which they  served Gopher Stew, Swamp Cabbage, Gator Tail, Armadillo, Possum,  Catfish and Hushpuppies.  Delicious.  I've also had Snapping Turtle,  very good.  The Gopher Stew, swamp Cabbage and Gator Tail are all  illegal now, unless you buy some farm-raised gator meat.[/div][div id="TixyyLink" style="overflow: hidden; color: rgb(0, 0, 0); background-color: transparent; text-align: left; text-decoration: none; border: medium none;"]
