Did somebody say they were BRITISH?! Would you like some tea and crumpets?!

I would love some tea and crumpets, but it is now breakfast time.  I fell asleep before the Ebony Room opened.  Come to think of it, crumpets still sound good.  Thanks for the suggestion.

Crumpets are a traditional English form of food. Usually eaten at teatime, grilled with butter on them. There's also a British slang internepretation for this word e.g. "She's a nice bit o'crumpet" n.b. this term cannot be used in reference to men.

They're like a little pancake, that is quite acceptable to eat with your fingers.  They're YUMMY.

From this picture they certainly do, but the texture is quite otherwise - they're soft and floppy

After you toast them, you spread some butter and watch it melt into all the little holes, and then add some good imported orange marmalade.  What a treat!

Although I have some Scottish ancestry,  I've never developed a fondness for oats in any form.  Not that I recoil at the sight of them, but it isn't the first thing I look for when I shop.  *perhaps not even the twentieth item*

On one of our dinner party 'theme nights', we did a 'Dinner at St. Andrews' (we're all golfers)  I made a yummy 'liqueur' with oats.  Atholl Brose.....it was really good.

   Ingredients:
3 rounded tablespoons of medium oatmeal
2 tablespoons heather honey
Scotch whisky  Method:
The oatmeal is prepared by putting it into a basin and mixing with cold water until the consistency is that of a thick paste. Leave for half an hour and then put through a fine strainer, pressing with a wooden spoon to extract as much liquid as possible. Throw away the oatmeal and use the creamy liquor from the oatmeal for the brose.  Mix four dessert spoonfuls of pure honey and four sherry glassfuls of the prepared oatmeal and stir well. (Purists insist on a silver spoon for stirring!) Put into a quart bottle and fill with malt whisky; shake before serving.

Uhm.... What is the Ebony Room? In the words of Raymond's mom... "Is it pornography?"
