Do not trust the Heart and Stroke Foundation Logo

Anyone catch the CBC documentary on the Heart and Stroke Foundation last night? Very interesting. Apparenlty they do not really check that the food items that wear their logo. Companies PAY the Heart and Stroke Foundation to have their logos on their packaging and in doing so, tries to trick consumers into buying their products.

Unbelievable. I thought the H&S had better standards than that. Bottom line, read the labels well and don't trust what you see.

You've seen the Health Check logo. It's the friendly red checkmark that appears on nearly 1,500 packaged food products in this country, representing the approval of the Heart and Stroke Foundation. If a product bears the logo, that means Heart and Stroke has evaluated it and concluded it complies with their criteria, which is based on the recommendations of Canada's Food Guide to Healthy Eating.

So. Does the logo mean it's the healthiest choice? The answer is a little complicated. As Wendy Mesley reports, it turns out that some of Heart and Stroke's Health Check products don't get top marks in other food-rating systems.

Always end the name of your child with a vowel, so that when you yell the name will carry.

Yep!  Saw that and already figured that out.  Plus, I don't buy products based on the health check anyways.

It's all a bunch of marketing BS scheme.  Same applies to "organic" food and this era of eating healthy and all these changes of what is bad and good...

*sigh*  I like the food group chart that I learned when I was in teeny tiny school.  That is what I stick by.

Very true, purelife. I'm just amazed at the amount of scams out there targeted at consumers. But the H&S? I mean, that's a logo people trust! To be betrayed by a company like that is horrible. Makes me wonder who you can really trust these days.

Trust no one.

Well, the Jolly Green Giant of the vegetable land.

I heard this too.

What about the Canadian Dental Association stamp on toothpastes? Is that all BS too?
When the End comes, don't worry if your party shoes are clean or not. Just make sure you have them on!

Is your logo gonna have a pic of your goats in pretty colors?

Billiant idea PSL! The goat is a PROUD and NOBLE creature! Everyone that sees a goat instinctively knows to trust them right? But of course! Why.. I could probably sell McDonalds as healthy with a seal of goat approval on them, if people see a goat they know they can trust it!

same with organics, everything is "organic" now because its en vouge.
Plus its common sense here guys, if a twinkie has a heart symbol, you know its a joke. Its like light cigarettes, its still cigarettes, nothing "lite" about them. We're all (society) seem to be looking for a pill or tasty fatting food that won't make us fat. lol

This is so true. Its been complained about many times.. companies put organic on packing.. but what constitutes organic and chemically treated natural? There is no government standard.. so you could really put organic on even non organic food.

True as well with teh magic pill. Cigs are another example the gubbernment has cracked down on, if you look at all our cigs being sold now.. there is no more 'light', 'ultralight', 'medium', etc. They are just called different 'tastes' now.

I'm gonna come out with organic water and stamp the goat seal.  Then, I'm gonna sell organic air on ebay.

Okay! Ill put the sacred seal of the goat on it for you! My only stipulation to make sure its healthy for all the consumers and truly organic is that the water comes from nuclear reactor cooling, and the air is from the exhaust. We wont have any health problems then.
