Why do we always respond so enthusiastically to the presence of all forms of new life?

I always think of Wordsworth's remark in Intimations of Immortality i.e. that we come down trailing clouds of glory. Maybe it's that we see some vestige of those clouds of glory in young life - while they've still managed to retain some of it.

When I was a kid, I would plant my own veggies and flowers in the garden.  I was so excited of seeing something grow after days of caring from me.  Just watching it grow and blossom and become of something gave me hope and much enthusiasam.  It was a great feeling of accomplishment too.  I feel the same way to this day.

True.. baby things are interesting to me.. but not on the same scale as what PL and Gopher just mentioned. PLants. That to me is a real thing, to see something from a small brown seed to a big green thing.

LOL  You've got a way with words for sure Russ.

I always wonder why baby humans are so cute.  The fact of the matter is, if the same sweet being had those proportions as an adult, they would surely look like an alien.
