[h2]6 dead in Surrey [/h2][p class="byline"] PATRICK BRETHOUR [/p] [p class="source"]Globe and Mail Update[/p] [p class="article-date"]October 19, 2007 at 11:24 PM EDT[/p] [!-- dateline --]SURREY, B.C.[!-- /dateline --] — An RCMP homicide team was investigating a mass murder Friday night with up to six people dead in an apartment building.[/p] Sgt. Roger Morrow said in a press conference near the murder scene that the first emergency call came in as a report of a gas leak with multiple victims, triggering a massive police and fire response.[/p] "Initially, it was a gas leak. A very large area was cordoned off for fear of an explosion," he said.[/p] But emergency responders to the tall concrete building near 98th Ave and King George Highway quickly realized they we're dealing with a mass murder scene. [/p]"We're looking at perhaps a very dramatic homicide scene with as many as six dead," said Sgt Morrow.[/p] Asked if it was a murder suicide, he replied; "I literally don't know."
