The next few weeks are going to be hectic.

What was the world like before instant access to information?  Couple of nights ago I got a bit pissy b/c the bank's login site was down for maintenance.  I wanted to check by bank balance and pay some bills at midnight...but I couldn't.

  That got me thinking...

Back in the days before electronic banking, could you set up automatic payments on a loan/mortgage?  Or did you need to write post-dated cheques for each payment?

P.C.

Hi everyone, back to myself now. [img border=0 src="vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif"]

  Hi Lil Me...missed ya.

I was thinking myself the other day about that very thing....how everything has to be instant or, as you say, we get pissy.  I was specifically thinking about transit, and how with all the changes in technology etc, the thing that's changed the most is in how much we complain about it not being fast enough, efficient enough, punctual enough.  I used to take the bus to work every day from near the bottomish of Victoria and Marine to Hornby and Helmcken. (sp ?  I forget)  The common wait between buses was 30 to 45 minutes....and on some routes it was an hour and some even longer.  That's just the way it was.  The only thing we cursed was ourselves, for missing the bus before the next.  I think in today's impatient society,  there never will be transit that is good enough for anyone.

Lol my buddy lives in that area.

Nope there won't be P.C., you're right. Its a by product of the consumerist driven society.

"The : I want a skytrain line to UBC" even though the population is moving eastward into the tri-cities, surrey, white rock. But I still need it to get downtown quicker.

Questioner: "Yes, but what about the people in the Tri-cities, etc."

Interviewee: I don't care, we still need a skytrain line.

Q: "Yes, but in order to do so you'd tear up all the businesses on 4th or Broadway to go all the way to UBC to serve a few thousand who live there permanently? While true in that it is a commuter school and a lot of people work at UBC, you're asking a lot that's rather a luxury for an extension all the way to UBC. A connection to Cambie or Arbutus is more feasible."

I: "Yes and that's why we need it to go all the way."

Q: "You know, if you extend it all the way, the landscape on the westside will forever change as once the older homes become labelled as 'insufficent' or 'condemned' for termites and such and with the access of a skytrain line would then see the rise of condos over homes by developers."

I: "Good, we need higher density."

Q: "Yes, but at what price and cost to the community? Do you want hight restrictions and something planned or just more glass condos?"

I: "It doesn't matter, what needs to be done, must be done."

Q: "You know we had a mayor in the 60s who thought the same way except he was all for highways everywhere. You know that beach you love, well he wanted it to be 6 lane highway to UBC... In areas where he wanted a highway, he labelled them as 'blight' and 'unsightly' "

I: "What happened?"

Q: "The people woke up."
