Ah. Isn't that sweet? She's trying to follow her daddy's shoes. Big shoes to fill indeed. I hope the media will give her space to grow into her own person though. As much as this is desirable, I would prefer for Bindi to develop her own personality and her own way of presenting, not just a copy of Steve Irwin.

[!-- dateline --]BURBANK, Calif.s[!-- /dateline --] -- Bindi Irwin, the 8-year-old daughter of the late "Crocodile Hunter" Steve Irwin, followed in her dad's footsteps Thursday, using her American television debut to talk about animals.

The khaki-clad girl skipped across the stage holding a blue-tongued lizard as she greeted audiences of the "The Ellen DeGeneres Show."

"This is Spanky. He's 10 years old," Bindi told DeGeneres as she prodded the lizard to lick her face in an attempt to show its tongue.

"I just love animals. My dad really brought it out in me," Bindi said. "He's the one that made me."

Her father, animal lover and conservationist Steve Irwin, died Sept. 4 from the poisonous jab of a stingray. Along with Bindi, he left behind his wife, Terri, and 2-year-old son, Bob.

Like her father, Bindi said she loves "all animals, great or small."

She will star in a wildlife series to air on the Discovery Kids network early next year.

"I want to be like my dad," she said. "I want him to be proud of me."

Always end the name of your child with a vowel, so that when you yell the name will carry.

I was really impressed with her social skills when I watched her on Larry King last night.  She is very gracious and polite for such a wee thing.

*I'm curious as to why they would call that her television debut......I've seen her on TV at least a dozen times, and I don't even watch that much TV.

Heart-wrenching.  The world needs more people like Steve Irwin.

True enough, Ally though I don't always agree with the way he handles animals. Think of it this way, you're deadly, you move about your business and this jolly Aussie comes in and snatches you, parades you in front of the camera like there's no care in the world. Hmmmm.....

Had I said this in Australia, I would have been stoned on the spot. Nobody will hear anything bad about Stevo.

Ally

Yeah I agree with you Lise.

He had a great energy about him though.

I used to do a great Steve Irwin impersonation.  "look at this croc, look at his teeth, watch me stick my head in his mouth"

  I don't do it anymore.

ive never watched his movie nor have i ever seen his tv show. i really dont understand the fascination with him.
...

P.C.

I've never understood the fascination myself.  I never understood the great compassion for animals either, when so much of his schtick was annoying the heck out of the poor things.

Of course I feel badly that his life has ended and how his life was ended......far too young.

As for Bindy, who's a little doll, I hope she will be able to be who and what she wants of her own choice and not feel some sense of 'obligation' to be 'just like my daddy'.  It can happen subtly and unintentionally.

I love nature shows love them to death especially when they deal with North American animals but I don't like these new types of shows that was started basically by Irwin.  I want to watch a Croc in action doing something I don't like how these people now go after these animals pick them up and do all sorts of stuff with them.

To me it trivializes teh wild and makes it look like anyone can do what these people do.  Call me old fashion but then again the old professional way of doing things do not get the ratings the Irwin type shows do.
