[/font][p style="font-family: Verdana;"] Maher Arar was deported by US customs agents to Syria after Canadian police labelled him an Islamic extremist.   [/p][p style="font-family: Verdana;"] Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Commissioner Giuliano Zaccardelli said his force had made major mistakes. [/p][p style="font-family: Verdana;"] A public inquiry found Mr Arar had been caught up in a hunt for terror suspects after the 2001 attacks on the US. [!-- E SF --] [/p][p style="font-family: Verdana;"] Mr Zaccardelli says he has no intention of resigning over the affair despite calls for him to do so. [/p][p style="font-family: Verdana;"] He said: "I wish to take this opportunity to express publicly to you and to your wife and to your children how truly sorry I am for whatever part the actions of the RCMP may have contributed to the terrible injustices that you experienced and the pain that you and your family endured." [/p][p style="font-family: Verdana;"] False information [/p][p style="font-family: Verdana;"] He also said he fully accepted the 23 recommendations made by the report of a public inquiry into the Arar case. [/p][p style="font-family: Verdana;"] Published last week, this heavily criticised the police force for spreading misleading and false information about the Syrian-born Canadian. [/p][p style="font-family: Verdana;"] The inquiry said claims linking Mr Arar to al-Qaeda probably contributed to his deportation by US authorities to Syria in 2002. [/p][p style="font-family: Verdana;"] In Damascus, he was imprisoned for a year and tortured before Canadian officials finally secured his release.   [/p][p style="font-family: Verdana;"] In his appearance before a parliamentary committee, Mr Zaccardelli said his officials tried to correct some of that information before Mr Arar was deported. Yep. It's the same as the old "Mistakes were made" statement. Yes, mistakes were made, but not by anyone- it's as if the mistakes just miraculously happened and no person or people were involved. "Mistakes were made. And we're so sorry that they were made, tra-la-la-la-la, but you can't blame me..."

Another thing, the pathetic Canadian media were making it sound like it was "Evil America's" fault. Yes, the US deported him, even though he had a Canadian passport. The USA was following false and misleading information supplied by the RCMP.

Agreed.  He's cutting back on essential programs while there is around 13 billion in surplus.  The ones who will be hurt most are the ones who are most disadvantaged and really need help.

 What programs is he cutting? He seems to be paying down the debt and bringing Canada into the black. I heard about program cuts, but not sure what they are? Some "programs" brought on by the Liberals are slush funds that are useless!

Canadians fully remember what a mess Bob Rae made of Ontario when he was premier.
They're not about to let him screw up the rest of the country. Rae was and still is one of the most hated politicians in Ontario. And since it's Ontario votes who decide federal elections...

Harper's doing a great job and riding high in the polls right now. No need to mess with success.
