Holy sh*t, just went through the same hell on DV you guys were talking about here 3 days ago.  Terrifying!  Clicked on a random thread... didn't say anything in the title about mods or viruses.  Scary indeed.  Don't feel safe going there at all now!  What the hell is the deal over there.

kingy

yes, i just semi went thru it on dv. i have that site in my host file so it doesnt do anything but...

for any dv mods, the thread reads "posts f!#cked my computer!!!"

whatever you do, dont click on that thread.

A few suggestions to make browsing a little safer everywhere....

1) If you don't use Outlook Express as your email client, uninstall it. It's an accident waiting to happen. See the info below on uninstalling it.

2) Turn on pop-up blocking.

3) If you use FireFox (and you should), go into the Tool - Options screen.
[ul][li]Click the "Content" icon. [/li][li]Then click the "Advanced..." button across from the "Enable jvascript" checkbox. (Leave the "Enable jvascript" checkbox. checked)
[/li][li]Uncheck all the checkmarks. You might want to leave the "Raise or lower windows" box checked. [/li][li]Save and exit. [/li][/ul]This will prevent most of the michief that's often done through jvascript.

You can get FireFox [a href="http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/"]here[/a] or by clicking on the "Get Firefox" icon on the right side of this page.

Uninstalling Outlook Express
[a href="http://www.people.cornell.edu/pages/drb1/Windows/OutLookExpress/OutLookExpress.htm"]http://www.people.cornell.edu/pages/drb1/Windows/OutLookExpress/OutLookExpress.htm[/a]

The steps necessary to remove Outlook Express under Windows 2000/XP or for users who have upgraded their browser to a later version are much more complex.  Rather than try to include them here, we will direct you to the Web pages provided by Microsoft.

How to reinstall or repair Internet Explorer and Outlook Express in Windows XP: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=318378

You may be able to automatically remove Outlook from Windows 2000 by opening the Control panel and selecting Add/Remove Windows Components and then de-selecting Outlook Express.
The real trouble with reality is that there's no background music.

Just checked that thread, it doesn't do anything nefarious.

well, there are a few more threads with the same name since i posted that last message.

if your super brave, you could click on the threat that was started by ??? and not the ones by anti-virus.

I agree. IE is evil, and should ONLY be used to get updates from Microsoft.

For those of you who haven't already done so, get Mozilla.
If you don't have a router yet, consider one. No wireless though!

DVcan be fun sometimes, especially for the teeny-bopper whoclaimsbragging rights for having effectively shut it down Sat. Feb.25.

I bet every thread there is dirty so don't bother until you hear from a reputable source that it's been cleaned up.
That's also part of the fun about DV too, it's a great opportunity for baby c/p coders to lose their cherry.
I bet in 20 years the prick is a Senator, lol.

With threads like these (on DV), who needs Jerry Springer?

That was the one I was referring to in my earlier post. Nothing there - other than a couple anti social guys feeling each other out. [/DIV][DIV align=right][P align=right]

Has anyone been over there tonight? It is still a 3-ring circus. I opened a thread a couple days ago and got a pop-up that just just jumped around my screen, then i just closed everything down...do you suppose anything evil happened? I have a Mac.
It is what it is.

Nothing smug here. I'm sure they'll try, and with all the tricky ways of doing stuff I would't be shocked if they succeeded.

That works for  me. No argument there.

As for 'wholesome', I can only speak for myself, but the term doesn't fit. I haven't been wholesome for years, lol.

I'm having a chat with Bela over there, seems to being goingswimmingly. Although I politely asked the coder to be cool, who knows?
