I only use squash when I'm makeing beef stew.  I substitute potatoes with butternut squash.  

  You can also mash sqaush like you would to make mashed potatoes.

Thanks Teh and purelife - these will be a great help. I was carried away with enthusiasm while  I was planting the seeds and already the crop looks as though there'll be enough to feed several worlds.
