eh, I don't think I can change that. The family is pretty fractured as is. The two girls from KC don't even acknowledge our exsistence. I've only seen the other uncle's side 5 times since my grandpa died in '96.
We aren't very close part of the reason we live all over the country.

Well, nobody's family is perfect. I know that. Even mine isn't exactly a bed of rose but I do appreciate family and I do miss the times when we can talk about stupid stuff over the table. Family is very important in the Chinese family, I guess we make sure we don't forget where we come from.

yeah that sounds so awesome. My family tends to marry into big family's that are close knit. Since you can count the entire family on 2 hands. I'm envious of that Lise. You're lucky.

Thanks, SD. In a way, I am lucky because I grew up in a family that values tradition and being together. At the same time, it's not always perfect. I know cracks within the family that no one will talk about for fear of shame or whatever.

I am determined to give as much value to my new family as possible so that they will grow up with love and knowing how important a family is.

I just know you're going to do the same when you meet that special someone and start your own family, SD. You know what's been missing so I'm sure you won't want your kids to grow up feeling like you did. Right?

When you are at the stage of having your own family, I hope you'll realize by then, that it's going to be about more than where YOU came from.  I think there'll be another factor there that you seem to be overlooking ?

Morning miss Lise, PC, and SD.

Sorry was backreading and posted for another post first.

We are putting new carpet in the suite PC.. because we have moved upstairs with my brother, we will put carpet in the suite for now and put laminate flooring upstairs where we are now living. My friend and myself were going to put in the new carpet in but my dad somehow got in there and has his buddy who's a carpetlayer coming over to put it in.

8k for a wedding of 70 people sounds about right lise... unfortunately it looks like with all the friends and family we 'have' to invite according to our parents its going to be almost 3x as many people.

[/span][img style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;" src="richedit/smileys/Happy/20.gif[/img][span style="font-style: italic; font-weight: bold;"] ) I especially look forward to the food, gotta be good food for the wedding to be memorable.[/span]
[hr style="width: 100%; height: 2px;"]Hopefully next year or 09 the latest, Lise.  I luu luuuu luuuuuuuuuvvve weddings too.

If I had it my way, I'd just go to the Commissioners, get the papers signed and then throw a big bash out of someone's backyard.  I plan to buy a dress that is all white for under $300 that I can wear again and again.  Something simple with a halter top.  I've seen plenty of beautiful white dresses this summer. :)))

I don't understand how some could just spen SO MUCH on a wedding when in the end, nobody really came for the decorations, but for the bride and groom.  And, I'm sure some are just there for the free food.

In traditional chinese weddings, the bride's family decides how many banquet tables are to be reserved for their side of the family and friends.  Most often this is a exobitant amount as the family wants to show how well their daughter is marrying into........and the groom (or groom's family) is paying!

Fortunately it's customary to give the newlyweds money in red envelopes at the reception......many of my friends have came out ahead after deducting the wedding costs

lol! that's funny 49er. Families having agendas at weddings. classic.

Evening!  Garlic red pepper chicken from Costco tonight.

Weird weather today.  Cloudy, alternating showers, muggy as heck.

Evening folks.

I got quite a number of red packets from my side of the family at our wedding. I guess it was custom that they give us money but on hubby's side... well, quite a number of recycled gifts. You would think that giving us 1,000 photo frames would make our day.

Anyways, I'm counting down the days to purelife's wedding! Woot! If my backyard was nice enough, heck, I'd offer it to you to have your party there but I'm not sure it's pretty or big enough. Shall we all just hike up to Grouse Mountain and have your wedding there?

Dinner today was tofu hot dogs (we're developing a taste for them, believe it or not), edamame and tofu soup. No meat for dinner. I'm gonna get hungry in.... oh... 5 mins or so. How do the vegans manage the entire day without meat is beyond me.
