Funny thing about my grandparents hungarian food is that its not traditional hungarian food nor is it traditional german food. Its german food mixed with hungarian spices (paprika) and hungarian influences. Has to do with the fact that there were a bunch of germans in Hungary for hundreds of years. They never mingled with the Hungarian population so they never assimilated but they took Hungarian cooking and mixed it with traditional german food.

That would be mainly in the western part of Hungary, from when Austria and Hungary were united.  Since the Turks occupied a lot of the eastern part of Hungary the cooking influences were quite different from one area to another.

Yup. My grandpa grew up near the Austrian border. Some time during this decade I'm going to find it.
There was the gypies, germans and hungarians. Each had there own little village. The german villages never mingled with the hungarian villages and visa versa. Then the gypies never really had there own village they just lived where ever. This isolation didn't help after the war. The Germans were used as scape goats by the Hungarian population and sent all the german villagers in the Western part of the country to drop all german related customs, learn hungarian, stop speaking german, and some like my grandmother were sent off to Soviet workers Camps. Funny because my grandma's family was going to stay. lol Stalin changed that though.

This is starting to look like another hijack, SD.  This is "Lunch", not "History".

You expect me to plan THAT far ahead?  I open the fridge and see if anything is interesting.  If there is, I eat it.

worked weekends too?
My mom doesn't get how a 3hr job in the middle of the night can mess the rest of the day up for someone. I told her its not rocket science to why, I'm working when people are sleeping, I'm sleeping when people are working. lol getting up in the middle afternoon is not the ideal life.

Sure.  I worked 7 days a week until they called in an agency to work evenings and Monday and Tuesday.  Talk about burnout!

Working graveyard does have its drawbacks.  It's harder to sleep in the daytime.  Is this still the Lunch thread or did it escape again?

LOL!  We need a thread titled "SD is bored, and looking to hijack.  Wanna meet me in this thread?"

Sportsdude

lol if there was a thread like that, I bet nobody would post in it.
