Are current DV mods fostering ill will?

A transition from bad to worse...



Seeing that it's become virtually impossible to say anything remotely critical of the mods, except under their own self appointed threads which are also subject to their whims and can be deleted any second if they "don't like" what you have to say, I wanted to create a thread away from their reach, where people can express their opinions of the current DV mods.



Ultimately I intend to bring this thread to the attention of DV CEO Mike.

 In response to the question about whether the mad deleter is someone "above the mods", my answer (which apparently struck a nerve) was that these actions don't seem in character for Mike the owner (who generally couldn't give two shits on a stick about DV as long as its pulling in traffic). It's also not in character for the admins, who have a long history of working quietly and peacefully behind the scenes.
 
 My conclusion was that since all this mess started in the last week, Mike obviously brought some new guns onboard around the same time he signed you up. These rogue mods, then, are the source of our troubles."

Basically, if you're wondering what's happening over on DV, there are/is some/an new mod(s) who are/is deleting HUGE numbers of threads. Lots of completely innocent, seemingly random stuff like a bump thread (just a silly little thread where people say "bump", wheee!), but also anything that is in the slightest bit critical (or even questioning) of the deletions.

 I posted the quote above on X's (he's a n00b mod, but seems Ok) VENT thread and it was immediately deleted.

In a nutshell, I believe the current atmosphere at DV is serving no other purpose than fostering ill will between its users and mods.



I noticed SWOT4 has been trying to reason with them, but not having much success due to constant thread deletions.



I was also surprised (or even secretly amused) to see our sweet beloved Poolife [A onclick="addImg('icon/icon_smile_big.gif')" href="jvascript:void(0)"][/A] using the F word against the mods, I believe on more than one occassion.



These are indications of the extent of stifling and oppression taking place in that place.



Currently the place apprears to have been taken over and run by unsociable egomaniacs:



For one, there's "X" who seems to be so high on himself that he often comes across as being rude - "I'm the piss King of this place, I can do what ever I want, threaten whomever I want..." type of attitude, coupled with his constant typing in ALL CAPITAL letters, isn't doing wonders for DV's image.



Then there is (or "are") lurker mod(s) who've never displayed the civility and courtesy to come out and introduce themselves.



All they do is to cower in silence, and abuse their "powers" by going on deletion rampages, with no explanations, rationale, rhyme or reason... [A onclick="addImg('icon/icon_smile_shy.gif')" href="jvascript:void(0)"][/A]

Recently a number of regular users, and I suspect lots of others as well, found themselves unable to post on DV.



These were people who had not done anything wrong.



However in their zeal to curb various (mostly harmless) troll antics, DV admins appear to have been implementing wide range IP bans.



Shot gun approach, in other words. If one bored teen is acting out, then ban his whole IP range, and hope that he'll go away...



In reality he doesn't. He just switches his IP or proxy server, and continues what he's doing.



In the meantime, dozens of innocent people are banned from posting on DV, without a reason. [A onclick="addImg('icon/icon_smile_shy.gif')" href="jvascript:void(0)"][/A]

Almost none of what the people that operate DV are doing makes any sense to those of us who have created and moderated forums. If they wanted to fundamentally change how the forum worked, it would be easier to just shut it down, implement the new system, and let everyone know in advance that that was what was going on. These games (hours-long shut downs, random bannings and edits, etc.) indicate either that the DV folks have an enormous amount of time on their hands, or they have no clue what their doing.
 
 For me, the place just became more and more boring, as the random deletes by people with mod level access began to show, as someone else here already said, that the lunatics really are running the asylum. The intensity of language, even the ugliest kind, doesn't really bother me. On the other hand, absurd stupidity from incompetent administrators on any forum really does.

First of all I would like to thank the regulars and administrators of this forum for allowing some of their northern neighbours a place to come together and discuss a local problem.  It is much appreciated and though I am brand new here, the maturity I've seen so far will make this a regular stop for me.

  Back to the issue of the mods.

  When I was banned for posting giant pictures, I was posting them in threads that the moderators were allowing to remain when they should not have.  There is no reason to allow someone to troll starting a hate thread about Muslims, Hispanics, Chinese or ANYONE.  

  The woman hater posts that are so regular don't really fall under the same category and are much more innocuous.  There will always be whiners and they all seem to think they're the first to post why women in Vancouver suck.  

  But seriously, when someone is posting that another person, one whom they have never met, is a slut, or a lesbian... That SHOULD be deleted.  And if the same person is posting the same woman hater post (copied and pasted) it should be deleted.

  If someone is posting to troll for a racial argument, that SHOULD be deleted.

  If someone spams the board with links to something they're selling, DELETE IT.

  If there are photos of porn or gore, specifically human gore, DELETE!

  They were NOT deleting those, so I put huge photos in.  Hence my own banishment.  They actually took the time to go in and delete the photos I posted, but leave the hate threads.

  Something truly is seriously wrong with whomever they have chosen to moderate that board.  If they chose someone that was scrambling for the opportunity, that would be their FIRST mistake.  Their second is banning longtime posters who are some of the only ones that have added anything to intelligent threads.

  My five cents.

  Oh, and they need to define a set of Rules of Conduct.  Break the rules and you're gone.

  I have approached another Vancouver organization to set up forums.  I should know something soon.

I've said it berfore and I'll say it again.  DV has become a complete joke and should be treated as such.  The owners don't care about it so they hire on anyone to mod it.  Just because you spend an enormous amount of time on a board, it does not make you MOD material.  The people moderating the board right now, whether new or not, have no idea how to mod properly and find it appropriate to delete at free will and justify nothing.  It's complete BS but nothing will be done about it.

 I'm not a person who usually swears and when I do, it is to express anger.  I was just so fu*cking pissed off yesterday at the mods who would just delete and delete posts.  Someone deleted my post when I innocently questioned why a thread had disappeared.  f*ck, was all I had to say.
 
I know that many innocent people got banned because of ip ranges and such.  The mods at Clubzones probably don't communicate anything to the current mods and in turn, frustration arises.  What a bunch of bull crap!  It has always been like this with the Admins and the mods. [/div]

Hmm.  I've always gotten along fine with Aboozer and academe.  I would be suprised and quite disappointed to find out either of them had power tripped and banned me.
