Santorum is a liar  and a crybaby

[a href="vny!://www.sploid.com/news/2006/05/santorum_is_a_l.php"][/a]
As [a href="vny!://www.sploid.com/news/2006/05/ann_coulter_is.php"]Ann Coulter remains a fugitive from the law[/a], another darling of the fire & brimstone Right is facing [a href="vny!://www.reason.com/hitandrun/2006/05/rick_santorum_a.shtml#013994"]accusations of voter fraud[/a]. [/p] But while Coulter refuses to address her own problems, Pennsylvania's Senator Rick Santorum is whining and lying his way through an ugly campaign fight against democratic nominee Bob Casey for his senate seat.[/p] In last Tuesday's "[a href="vny!://www.gatewaynewspapers.com/pennhillsprogress/61330/"]Penn Hills Progress[/a]," Ed Vecchio -- husband of Erin Vecchio, the Penn Hills Democratic Committee chairwoman -- questioned the Santorums' right to vote in the small Pittsburgh suburb. Vecchio would later repeat the claim to local CBS affiliate KDKA.[/p] "I have a right to contest the Santorums' votes," Ed Vecchio said. "Their house has no furniture and no drapes. They don't live in Penn Hills."[/p]                         When he heard of this accusation, Santorum freaked out. [a href="vny!://www.redstate.com/story/2006/5/22/82251/9297"]An open letter[/a] from the senator and his wife Karen accused Casey of spying, trespassing and child endangerment.[/p] [blockquote] (A) Casey operative admitted on KDKA-TV to trespassing on our property and viewing the inside of our home. Further, your campaign issued a press release yesterday that falsely says that we do not stay in our Penn Hills home. This reckless statement is not only a lie, but alerts those who may want to enter the home illegally. Your despicable actions have greatly endangered our children's safety.[/blockquote] To maintain the illusion of fear, Karen Santorum filed a complaint with U.S. Capitol Police. She told cops she fears that someone has been snooping around her home. Meanwhile, Penn Hills police are being forced to spend their time [a href="vny!://www.sploid.com/news/2006/05/U.S.%20Capitol%20Police"]keeping an eye on the unused residence[/a].[/p] Erin Vecchio wasted no time in refuting Santorum's absurd claims.[/p] "[a href="vny!://kdka.com/topstories/local_story_139234621.html"]If you want me to take a lie detector test to say I was never on that property[/a]," she challenged. "Go for it. I'll, myself and my husband will take a lie detector test. Because, will you take a lie detector test, Rick -- to say you ever lived in that house?"[/p] A reply from Casey and his wife Terese was released in no time, as well.[/p] [blockquote]We are outraged that Sen. Santorum is making false and malicious charges and bringing our families and the Casey campaign into a long-running dispute he has with Penn Hills residents about his residency status.[/blockquote] The "long-running dispute" dates back to Santorum's 1990 election to the U.S. House of Representatives. During that campaign he showed photos of opponent U.S. Rep. Doug Walgren's Virginia home, in an effort to discredit his ties to Pennsylvania.[/p] Years later, in 2004, questions of Santorum's own residency status arose. It was learned that Penn Hills taxpayers were footing the bill for the Santorums' children to be cyber-schooled while they lived in the senator's Virginia home.[/p] Santorum said at the time that it was cool because he owned the house and paid taxes in the Penn Hills, though hew admits he and his family spend most of their time in Leesburg, Virginia.                                                         [/p]          [p id="Permalink"][a href="vny!://www.sploid.com/news/2006/05/santorum_is_a_l.php"]Permalink[/a]

The real trouble with reality is that there's no background music.

OK, here's where I run the risk of pissing off all the Vancouverites on DS, but to me this is a perfect example of where the electoral system in the US trumps that of Canada.

This one especially cracks me up as a family member of mine organised one of Santorum's first fund-raisers (anyone who has seen posts of mine would understand that I'm on the opposite end of the political spectrum--but one does not choose one's family).

One of my high school friends was the daughter of the Democratic Congressman in our District, and I remember what it was like whenever someone who recognised her would corner and start haranguing her about something her father did that they disagreed with.  The poor girl was 15, but it was an object lesson in representative politics.

Here in Vancouver we have this Emerson reprobate, who milked his "constituents" for donations to the Liberal Party, then bailed on them when Harper offered him a plum cabinet appointment.  Since Emerson doesn't even live in his riding, he never has to suffer the consequences of his actions (besides being defeated at the next election--whenever that will be).

Santorum has just exposed himself as the worst kind of political carpetbagger by not even spending a minimal amount of time in a house that is less than a day's drive away from DC.  He's milking dumbass ultraconservatives like my relatives for their political contributions, yet he has no connection to the people whom he has sworn to serve.  Now, obviously, the proto-fascists who are behind his agenda will continue to support him no matter what, but I wouldn't be surprised if people closer to the centre start to drift away--and deservedly so.

I never thought anyone would make Arlen Specter, aka "Torquemada" (after his performance in the Anita Hill hearings) look good.  But his junior closet-case colleague in the Senate has managed just that.

If Canadians were willing to overhaul the party system here to require candidates to actually reside in their ridings, then constituents would have the kind of leverage demonstrated by the voters of Pennsylvania.

I hope something comes of this, and that Santorum doesn't "slide" his way out.

Ah Don't worry mr. crazy pants will be gone because the democratic canidate running against him takes away his trump card which is being pro-life. Crybaby can't pull the pro-life card because his rival in the race is also pro-life so bye bye Ricky.

Gotta agree with you there, SD . . . but the pro-life thing is kinda scary.

'sides, the dyed-in-the-wool Republicans (like my family, arrrgh!) will still follow party loyalty.

PA is a swing state like OH.  It's hard to make the Righties jump ship.  And now the Lefties have a candidate they're not entirely comfortable with.

Yeah its said when a wedge issue decides a canidate.

Yeah some are dyed in the wool. But I love to know who my cousins and uncles voted for in the Senatorial election in '04.  Both canidates were black (Obama and Keyes) and one was a psycho the republican (Keyes).  But I think they either skipped that election and decided not to vote or voted for Obama inspite of him being a democrat.  Because I didn't see many Keyes signs down on the farm and I usually see every republican sign in my uncles front yard in front of the highway.

Obama rocks.  I wouldn't mind a Clinton/Obama ticket in '08.

Santorum and his wife celebrate the birthday of their stillborn fœtus. They are very sick people.

Its funny and its a statement of american culture when Tiger Woods and Obama are considered african americans when Tiger could be considered asian (Indo-Chinese mother) and Obama's mother is white. Same goes for Derek Jeter and Lenny Kravitz and Slash (who is actually jewish).

- Talked to her for about 10mins after a weekend today show taping. Really nice person. Heck she even talked to my uncle who was on the phone with my dad for a couple mins. I'll never forget that.

She had a white austrialian father and an afro-cuban mother. And her parents were going to get married in Maryland but it inter-racial marriages where illegal in the south until the Supreme Court in 1967 decided in Loving v. Virginia that interracial marriage bans were unconstitutional.

So technically she's hispanic and an african american and has won both hispanic, irish and african american awards.

Who do all these people have in common??

They are all interracial with white moms or dads but in America they are still labeled African Americans. Which is fine but it really shows how far this country has come from basically apartheid in pre civil rights days to now having prominent mix raced people in the spot light.  Sadly Rick Santorum  represents the old america and not the new one.

Much sicker.  Their foetus got over it.
Thousands of years ago cats were worshipped.  They have not forgotten.
