 If it's not square, it'll resize it so one dimension is 65px or so, and that may be where part of the problem is. A square avatar should resize properly, but I wouldn't swear to it. (I might swear at it, but that's another story.)

 To save time, I usually drink while I'm coding...which explains a lot.
