I noticed that too. Probably just lazy reporting and people thinking they wouldn't know where the places are so you say North of Nanaimo. etc. Plus Courtenay area is still small and unknown for the most part. It's a fast growing area but in terms of name recognition, it's not there yet.

    That's true....I'm sure it isn't instantly recognizable by many.....but neither are a million other places that come up in the news.   It's a bit of a nuisance, when they report something that is happening 'on the Island'.......like it's 10 blocks square or something.....lol

Well because you know "on the island" means it happened "on the island". It's worse amongst friends of a friend. They're convinced we went to UVic as there's on Victoria on the island and that's it. lol
