TV stations will only broadcast only in high definition (HD) beginning in 2009.  Old tvs will need converter boxes to convert HD signals back into old analog signals in order to work.  Converter boxes are going to cost $40-$60 each.

For US residents ........ $40 coupons (2 per household) are being handed out towards purchasing these boxes.          [A href="https://www.dtv2009.gov/"]https://www.dtv2009.gov/[/A]

Hey, um... I know its kinda too late but I have all my electronics plugged into powerbars with surge protection. I had this happen to an old TV, and decided that never again for the cost of a surge protected power bar.

  What about house insurance.

We DID have the surge protector.....$200 worth of protection.... the Super Duper Monster Bar they insisted we should have for the TV.

I'm wondering about house insurance too Russ.  I've never had a claim in my life....the one and only time I did...it was something they wouldn't cover.  So I'm not holding my breath on that one.[/DIV]

If you have a mortgage...you have house insurance.  You don't have a choice.

People who rent have a different set of circumstance.  You have to insure your contents on your own.  The owner/landlord of a house has to carry insurance if he carries a mortgage....but the tenant is required to insure themselves.  I believe it's the same if you rent and appartment etc.
