People carry guns.  They just don't make it visible, that's why you don't see it.  Other cities besides Vancouver is safe.  How does Vancouver compare to other cities in other Provinces in Canada?  I'm too lazy to google right now...

Good morning almost afternoon everyone.

Ok, since it's such a beautiful day, we are definitely visiting Deep Cove.  I haven't been there before.  First stop is Cates Park.

I hope everyone else has a nice weekend.

I guess if I came from St. Louis, I would think Vancouver is a paradise too. But I am from Vancouver, and I think it ranks up there with finding a tumour in your head.

in all seriousness vancouverites don't complain about the crime, it's super safe. You guys are just spoiled by a super non-violent country and are a product of an over sensationalist media. When I came to Vancouver at first I was in shock about the lack of people walking around with guns on skytrain, the streets, the malls. Be happy you live in Vancouver which is super safe and not a place that is dominated by guns.
anyway that's my two cents.

So cops and security guards don't carry guns in Vancouver?  I take it these are the people you are comparing to here in the states.  I live in the Bay Area, a hotspot for the gang violence and driveby shootings and I don't see people carrying guns publically unless required by their professions

I am a Canadian that has traveled throughout the USA several times. I seen as many guns as I have in Canada...not many.

I have never been to St. Louis though so I can't speak for that town. I have been to Dallas and I was told it was supposed to be like how sportsguy says, everyone has a big 'ol gun in your face. Didn't see guns in Dallas at all. I did enjoy some good BBQ's and American football though.

In Seattle I see more guitars than anything, I like that!

I'm with ya.  I'll take the guitars over the guns too.

I don't see secruity guards in metro town carrying 9mm. Skytrain stations are rarely guarded by any visible secruity. Only time I ever saw guards at a skytrain station was in New Westminister by the Quay. 2 guys out front standing around.
St. Louis, mall security has guns, regular secruity folks have guns, on the metrolink (skytrain) there's at least 7 cops on the busy stations, 2 with semi automatics, the rest with 9mm, then every station after that there's at least 2. All with guns.
When I first spent a weekend in Vancouver I went the whole weekend without out seeing a visible cop or a gun. I thought it was weird, walking around at night seeing no secruity force. Yet I felt somehow at ease.

Then again when i was in school we always had a cop patroling the hallways with a loaded hand gun.

I had a gun pulled on me twice in Vancouver and I was minding my own biz. Once was just from a cabbie making a dumb error in the wrong part of town. Our cab had SUVs on all four sides of it with guns pointed at us as we were slowly escorted out of that neighbourhood.

I am not saying Canada is worse than the USA for gun violence, but I am not saying Canada is better either. I know sports will disagree, but he is a young lad that needs to pull his head out of his ass.

I would like to take back that last comment about sd taking his head out of his ass. That was un-called for. I apologize. I just get worked up over that incident. I thought I was dead.

I am clsoer to peace with it.

G'Night all!

Awww.  That was nice.

Good evening everyone.

We spent a beautiful day at Cates Park and Panoramic Park in Deep Cove.  It was quiet and the weather was perfect...not too hot, not too cold.

That's odd that you only saw two cops with guns at New Westminster station.  Usually, I see about 4 of them almost all the time.  If you were here in August, you would see more cops around when we have the fireworks.  I guess they like to come out during huge public events, other times, they are quiet and perhaps undercover as well.  There are guns, people do carry them.... they hide them well from public viewing.

hmm it was 8pm on a saturday night, we went to the chinese style sushi place on the waterfront.

great day, surprised grandma by walking downstairs into the kitchen this morning. (she didn't know I was coming) :).
Talked to my cousin, found the village where my family comes from (my avatar is a church from my family's village). Overall great day. Glad to be with the family.

Loved the drive from Vancouver to Seattle, such an easy drive. Trying to get the family to move out to Seattle. ah well.. someday.

I feel safe in Vancouver too.  I've walked home several times past midnight and caught the bus on Main Street to the skytrain late nights.  I don't see a lot of cops around and sometimes, I'd like to see some around, especially by Main Stn, but I never came across any problems.  Well, that was a year ago, it may be different now.

That's a BIG church.

IT'S MASSIVE!!

Especially for a village of 500 people LOL
built in 1798 same time the family moved over there. lol
There's a world war I monument about the villagers who died in the war. I have a hunch a couple relatives are on there. I mean its a village of 500 people.

I'm going there next year. Taking dad along. Should be great.
