Trailer Park Boys - too funny for the US

I'm gobsmacked that a genius show like Trailer Park Boys cannot be found on any cable channel in the US, when it is so popular in Canada. I think the humor must be too sophisticated for Americans, they don't like to have to think when they laugh (or look too closely in the mirror).
Isn't that funny that a comedy show about a trailer park goes over the heads of Americans?
At least there's YouTube to feed my jones until my DVD's arrive. Here's one of my favorite bits.

Any other fans oot there?

A comedy? I thought trailer park boy was a documentary. How are we supposed to know it's funny if there isn't a laugh track?
I hate to advocate drugs, alcohol, violence, or insanity to anyone, but they've always worked for me.

Best thing on the idiot box. And they haven't become phony after a couple of successful seasons. If anything, they're grittier, and funnier.

First of all its a Canadian show which would not sell any where on the dial except for those goofy sex shows on oxygen they show at night on sundays after the grandma sex show, who is also Canadian.

Second is censorship.  The only basic cable channel where the show would be welcomed due to language would be FX.

I seem to remember a couple of years ago it being on BBC America but its not anymore since BBC America has gone into the crapper and now just shows crappy british reality shows.

And I must hark back on the Canadian thing. Da Vinci's Inquest just started on WGN this year and they couldn't use the pilot because it delt with that farmer that killed all those prositutes in Vancouver. So much for getting people hooked on a show thats really good.

Robert Picton was the farmer.

Why couldn't they use the episode?

I don't offically know but they said it was too 'risque' for basic cable.  Which is total bull since the show orginally aired on PUBLIC TV!!

But then I'm not suprised, Canada except under some circumstances have a pretty good free speech policy when it comes to TV. Considering I've heard the the word 'f*ck' said at least 3 times on tv on CTV News when they interviewed some druggie in downtown eastside on meth and on the National about a month ago when they interviewed a Canadian Asian stand up comedian who's made it big in hollywood.  And on the BBC, seen a show called Shameless which is about a hoopdidoopal poor british family.  But BBC America is weird they bleep out 'f*ck' but they do it so badly that you still here the word but nothing else is bleeped. Then they've showed male nudity on Shameless but again bleeped f*ck but in the same scene the word is written on a wall and they don't censor that, which is funny.  Then Footballers Wives shows a ton of nudity. And the best reality tv show I've seen Ramsey's Kitchen Nightmares that dude cusses up a storm.  And on BBC World Service the one of the presenters said shit load of money once.

  American TV is hypocritical.

That suprises me considering that I see more gore on CSI than I ever did when watching DI.

Sportsdude

You Some Chick have just figured out american culture.

We love gore but frown and despise sex.

We applaud movies like City of God and deplore and ban movies like Y tu mamá también.

The FCC won't go after gore because its celebrated while a naked breast scars childern for life.  Hence all you see on TV is crime shows because thats are culture. We are like the romans and there fascination with killing things as seen in the movie Gladiator.

We're still uptight about sexual content on TV, but I can see naked men and women on Friday nights at 11 on regular ol' television teaching me all about sexual preferences/tips etc. if I am so inclined.  Depending on my boredom level, I often AM so inclined.

  Cheaper than renting porn.

Sportsdude

I know I've seen the schedule on CityTv. On friday they show a porn movie at midnight. You would get kicked out of the country if someone did that here.  Heck they still bleep words out at 1.30 in the morning here if a guest on a talk show says something. 1.30 IN THE MORNING!!!

Indeed US TV is hypocritical. I never understood how nudity (which is usually shown in scenes that portray beauty and caring) is shunned in favor of Clockwork-Orange-like ultra violence. I saw one scene in one of those CSI-type shows of a narc (or something) getting his finger cut off that forever haunts me because of its brutality. And yet showing a woman's breast would be way out of line. What a f*cked-up culture.
I love that there's no laugh track in TPB.
When the Trailer Park Boys movie comes out the US will get one more chance. It'll either tank or it'll be a cult hit.

Anybody see the first season of "Butch Patterson - Private Dick" ?

Some Chick

No, but I did see a finger cut off on 24 and a severed head on CSI.

  I had to look away.

Sportsdude

One of my favourite shows: Prison Break, is one of the most violent shows I've seen on public tv.  They chopped a toe off in the opener, killed a cat, deal with prison rape, guy had his man hood chopped off, families have been executed for no apparent reason, cop was killed in a prison riot, abruzzi was slashed in the throat.  Its more graphic then 24 in my opinon because of how they treat each death.

Cheaper than renting porn.    Oh god, 'chick.  Masturbating to Showcase or Bravo shows?  I don't think so.  Slowly revolving reddish-purple hetero couples staring at each other motionless.  What a turn-on.
