How quaint. If you don't want to spend all that extra $$$$ on designer bags, hell... you can rent them for a fraction of the cost.

[DIV class=para12 id=article] Julie Kryk is not your typical bag lady. To say Kryk has a passion for purses is an understatement, and she's hoping the masses share that mania, because she's just opened a company that caters to women who want designer looks without designer prices.

Welcome to Shoulder Candy, the online service that lets you rent, by the month, some of the best bags in the business. Want a Louis Vuitton purse without the $1,200 price tag? A Chanel evening bag that's so rare it's priceless? Want to show up at your class reunion with a Prada that's not a knockoff?

Kryk has them all. "I'm nearing 70 now," she says of the collection, which also includes Balenciaga, Gucci, Fendi, Kate Spade, Chloe and Burberry.

Here's how it works. You go online at www.shouldercandy.com and view the collection. When something catches your fancy (and make no mistake, it will) you register to become a member.

Your first month is free, and after that each handbag you rent is $99 a month with optional insurance at $14.99 a month. If you only want the bag for a week or two, you can go online and "trade" and that costs $9.99 per handbag to cover the round-trip shipping.

Expensive? "Some people will think it is a lot of money," Kryk says, "but when you figure you can trade as often as you want, or keep it for three weeks, three months, and not have to pay thousands of dollars per bag, it's a very attractive way to have the look without the cost."

The insurance covers the little scrapes that inevitably come with daily use, but not loss, theft or "marring beyond repair," she says.

It takes about three to five working days for the bag to arrive at your door, lovingly packaged and including a cheat sheet that gives handy hints on keeping your purse in pristine shape.

"I think the women who would go through the process of getting a membership and ordering these purses are the kind who know the value and would take very good care of them," Kryk says.

"We want this to be a personal thing, because handbags are very personal. I'd love to start a blog to hear what people want and how they feel about their purses."

Always end the name of your child with a vowel, so that when you yell the name will carry.

I guess that this is good for weddings.

As long as my bag isn't gargantuan, does not have Miss Kitty on it, has a spot for my cell phone and my credit cards and a spot for some change, can fit my hairbrush and a small perfume bottle... I'm pretty content.

I don't care as long as my dildo fits in.

Mine would never fit in my purses.  I would have to choose between my hairbrush and that.  Since I probably have more opportunity to use the brush...

Plus, those unexpected bumps causing suprise buzzing noises while in the local shopping mart line up...

  Embarassing.
