It's much better if you can copy and paste some or all of the article here so we can see it.

I won't paste the whole article. I really suggest you guys link to it and read the whole thing. It's pretty good, although a bit overstated in places.

  My favorite bits...

Pat Robertson stated on his 700 Club Program, January 14, 1991: "You say you're supposed to be nice to the Episcopalians and the Presbyterians and the Methodists and this, that, and the other thing. Nonsense. I don' have to be nice to the spirit of the Antichrist."

Pat Robertson believes that only Christian people should interpret and benefit from the Constitution. Again, on his 700 Club, December 30, 1981, he stated that "The Constitution of the United States, is a marvelous document for self-government by Christian people. But the minute you turn the document into the hands of non-Christian people and atheistic people they can use it to destroy the very foundation of our society."

On the difference btween "pro-life" and "pro-birth"...

Forcing females to have children without providing what they need financially, emotionally, and educationally is a pro-birth agenda that murders countless bodies and souls. Because they don't think the Sermon on the Mount is really very important, these individuals have an appalling disconnect, fawning over the decaying body of a woman in a permanent vegetative state while praising the demise of over 100,000 innocent Iraqi citizens and touting the patriotism of some 1,600 dead U.S. troops.

I've never actually heard the term "dominionist" before, but it's pretty catchy!

Dominionists shamelessly rape, pillage, and desecrate the earth because in the first place, their Bible has given them authority over all things human and in the second place, their "imminent" apocalyptic rapture, transporting them from the human "veil of tears" to live happily ever after in heaven, entitles them to do so.

This is a very well-written article and worth reading, imo.

I wish the christian left was more mainstream in this country like it is in Europe. Because the Christian right movement is all about hate.  (Tommy Douglas was a christian leftist for example.)

Good point!!!

The Christian left are active, but in a much more subtle way. They don't tend to jump into the political process. They also are less adept at using mass media. But wouldn't it be nice to see a large-scale anti-war protest organized and led by Christians??

They seem to have no problem organizing "support our troops" marches...

The Christian right is for the war. The Left isn't. My church called the war illegal.

The Christian left has to become a voice in this country for the midwest to remain sane.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
[DIV id=contentSub]

[DIV id=jump-to-nav]Jump to: [A href="vny!://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_left#column-one"]navigation[/A], [A href="vny!://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_left#searchInput"]search[/A][/DIV][!-- start content --] The Christian Left is a term used to describe those who hold a strong [A title=Christianity href="vny!://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christianity"]Christian[/A] [A title=Belief href="vny!://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belief"]belief[/A] and share [A title="Left-wing politics" href="vny!://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left-wing_politics"]left-wing[/A] or [A title=Sotgwpdm href="vny!://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sotgwpdm"]sotgwpdt[/A] [A title="Ideal (ethics)" href="vny!://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ideal_%28ethics%29"]ideals[/A].

As with any division into left-wing and right-wing, a label is always an approximation. The term 'left wing' might encompass a number of values which may or may not be held by different Christians.

The most common Christian viewpoint which might be described as 'left wing' is [A title="Social justice" href="vny!://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_justice"]social justice[/A], or care for the poor. Supporters of this might encourage sotgwpded medicine, generous welfare, subsidized education, foreign aid and government subsidized schemes for improving the conditions of the disadvantaged. With [A title=Egalitarianism href="vny!://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egalitarianism"]egalitarian[/A] values stemming from a Christian perspective, action on behalf of the oppressed is considered a duty.

Many such people assert that their left-wing views derive directly from their Christian faith, and some cite [A title=Jesus href="vny!://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesus"]Jesus[/A] as "the first sotgwpdt". Many adherents hold also that the early [A title=Church href="vny!://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Church"]Church[/A] practiced sotgwpdm, or even something resembling [A title=Communism href="vny!://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Communism"]communism[/A] of a non-Marxist-Leninist variety, sometimes referred to as [A title="Christian communism" href="vny!://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christian_communism"]Christian communism[/A] ("The community of believers were of one heart and one mind. None of them ever claimed anything as his own; rather, everything was held in common." - [A title="Acts of the Apostles" href="vny!://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Acts_of_the_Apostles"]Acts[/A] 4:32) and that Jesus often seemed to advocate [A title=Pacifism href="vny!://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pacifism"]pacifism[/A], while being opposed to the wealthy elite of his day.

Yup. It always amazes me how Jesus' teachings have been perverted into teaching that good Christians are wealthy and the poor are weak in faith. They literally look at a wealthy person and assume that god has blessed them. The richer the televangelist is, for instance, the more likely he has a pious heart and speaks the truth.

Jeez, I wonder who this perspective benefits...

It is sad and pathetic how so many gullible regular-folk rubes worship corporate looters and bestow them with saintly status.  Look at how Enron's CEO's were worshipped and sanctified before they were exposed and shackled.

Maybe they look at wealthy people and  rather than merely assume,  actually KNOW that God has blessed them by creating the poor of the world to ensure that they obtain their riches.Yep, it's a crazy world - then again, I suppose the 'wonder of it all' is what keeps most of us alive: however, it would bepar preferable if there were less  negative 'wonder' to fill our minds.
