Hell yes, it's pretentious. I could take a crap on a paper plate, kick it against a clean white wall and my "art" would be every bit as interesting as hers.

The sad part is that, "Barclay is a major figure within the generation of Scottish artists who came out of [a  href="vny!://www.gsa.ac.uk/" title="Glasgow art school"]Glasgow art school[/a] in the 90s."

If she's a "major figure" in Scottish art then I feel sorry for Scotland. Yes, what she does is "art". But it's not good art.

I have to agree with Teh Borken... Most of what I see people calling art...well... to me it mostly looks like some one crapped on a plate and threw it against a wall... maybe I just don't get it.. but most of those things I saw in the link were not art... just crap needing to be flushed..

When did you last have a bowel movement that was worthy of being called a master piece of art...

This kind of 'art' irks me.  I understand that it means something to the artist, but it's when the art community pretends they understand what it means.  Even worse, is when they try to pretend they understand what it means and act like those that think it's garbage, just don't understand art.

I like some abstract art, but it has to have a visual appeal to me. But if you have to explain what it means, then it wasn't done well.

There is absolutely nothing visually pleasing about this.

My Art peaks for it's self i use photos and imagery of my art.. to share the things I call magnificent to the world... Speaking of which I have nearly 500 photos to sort through from this weekend retreat..

I shall share a couple of them after I figure out which ones I'd like to keep and those I shall delete..
