My little thread on Hosting and Posting Photos for Discover Seattle.
I post using Firefox on Windows Pro with Service Pack 3
Perhaps you are using Linux or some other kind of computer operating system, you might be posting with another kind of web browser such as Internet Explorer, Google Chrome or Opera. If this is the case your internet windows might look a fair bit different than mine do and if that is the case, I do not know where to begin to give a tutorial for you to post with. Sorry.
You should have a reply window that looks similar to this.

If it does not look like the photo above, then I have no idea what to do and you are on your own.
The First step is to find a photo you want to post and then a site to host it on, If you do not wish or can not use a direct photo link, some web sites do not let you do Hot linking it is considered theft of bandwidth.. So in order to post a photo, people will save or download the photo or they use a capture program such as the keyboards print screen button. The they might use a program such as windows paint to edit and save the image to the photo directory. In order to post the image they will use a web site similar to [a href="vny!://tinypic.com/"][a href="vny!://www.tinypic.com/"]this direct link for Tinypic[/a] [/a]for image hosting.

I like to use Tiny Pic for posting and finding photo's as well

You want the Direct Lay out link for this web site Which is the highlighted area in the photo.
You will copy that and enter it in this Little Window in order to post here The red arrow points to the Tool bar button I use to get the entry box for posting
(//vny!://i42.tinypic.com/55jbcj.jpg)
I am in rich text format I do not know if that can help you or not.
then I click ok and wait for it to post
Viola I now have posted a photo to Discover Seattle
This concludes My image posting and hosting thread I hope it helps you all out some.

Thanks Orik, in all the years I've been here this is the first time I've been able to post a picture.
Your welcome Gopher now that you have successfully posted a photo, perhaps we can work on resizing the photos to less than 640 x 480 thus all can enjoy with out a need for scrolling =D
If you host the photo on Tinypic you can choose in the options before you upload what size you want to re-size the photo too. See where the red arrow is pointing It gives you a fair number of choice sizes. 640 x 480 is generally for large forum boards some boards prefer you re-size smaller to the website or email which is 320 x 240 you can also enlarge to make photos for your screen 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768

Or you can double click the photo in your reply window here to get the Little white boxes.

As the red arrows indicate Drag the corners in to the center of the photo In order to make it smaller or away from the center to enlarge it.
and example of photo made smaller with TinyPic 320X240 format

Experimentation can be a good thing. Particularly, when you want to see what you can and can not do on a forum board...
Experimentation when driving on the other hand
(//vny!://i40.tinypic.com/2vjtq3q.jpg)
is generally not a good idea.
Did you go all through that tiny pic stuff to post that pic Gophie ?
(//vny!://i39.tinypic.com/b3n09y.jpg)
It was the only way that worked (for me)
Really ? Did you try the way I suggested ? The method Orik used, I use as well, for my own photographs, but it's way too involved for just posting a regular pic. Well for me anyway.
There is also this (//richedit/buttons/upload.gif) to post your own photos.
');self.parent.close_insert_pop();" border=0 alt="image file name: 2ka31882490f.jpg" src="vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/upload/2ka31882490f.jpg"]
Ah yes, so I see. and it IS easier.
I tried posting a picture of myself but it came back as rejected........no nudes allowed...................LOL
I think I saw that one.
there is also a size restriction to the photos uploaded to DS they must be smaller than 300 X 300
As long as you have the link to the photo you want you can post it
vny!://www.gourmetfury.com/2010/03/canada-gold/ < -----web page
vny!://www.gourmetfury.com/photos/hockey11.png <-----link to the photo
one method in Firefox is to right click and view image to go to it's source and copy the title bar info... or you can right click the photo and copy image location, you will find methods that work best for you keep experimenting. try some thread and image redirects.
Have you searched image shack or Tinypic they have some brilliant photos and they let you redirect and hotlink them, those that do not hide the true image url and those can be a bit intimidating to get around.. but a print screen and MS Paint often lets you copy those... but for the sake of basic respect it is oft best to respect the authors copyright.
Now with some photos that pop up you can right click the photos to go to properties and copy the url linked info in that as well but sometimes you can only find the photo info by viewing its source...
just experiment around you do not always need to host and post nor do you need to always save and upload them.. just remember some sites, Hate it when you Hijack the images and use that sites bandwidth this is call hot-linking many sites will redirect to another photo that says hot-linking is not allowed... I will use photos from all over but I am also prepared to download a photo I like and re-upload to Tinypic, so I can use those photos elsewhere.. thankfully not all photos are copy-written so this is not a problem..
This is from gourmetfury lets see if they allow for the use of its photos or if they redirect ..

Well what do you see if it is a bunch of people heading to the 2010 Final Hockey Game
It would seem they let me hotlink or steal there sites bandwidth... and if it is not that type of photo then they do not let me hotlink...
