Title: Massages and Manicures etc
Post by: P.C. on Feb 23 09 08:33
Now, this probably belongs in the 'I have nothing interesting to say' thread, but what the heck.

Hubby has booked me a massage.  This is uninteresting at its best.....but I have never had a massage.

Tell me your experiences please.

Lucky you!

The only professional massuese I've had was from work.  Our company hired the on-the-go masseuse where they bring the chair and staff get a 20 min massage.  I wish it was longer.

Let the masseuse know how much pressure you want him/her to apply to you.  If you don't let them know, you could walk away with a VERY sore back.

OK thanks purelife.  Will do.

Strangely enough, I'm kinda nervous...yet I have no idea why.

I hear you, P.C.  I was very nervous to let someone else (other than MrPL) touch me like that.  I was nervous about walking away with more pain than I had.  It's hard for me to trust someone who doesn't know my body, massage me the way the Professionals do.  That's probably why I don't go to a massause for a complete massage.

I'm a massage fan!  Massages are great.  The imporant thing is to communicate with your masseuse.  You're the client, so if you're ever not comfortable (too hot, too cold, feeling weirded out) tell them so they can adjust things.  Are you going to a spa, or seeing an RMT?  Either way, you will be covered with a sheet.  Whether or not you leave your undergarments on is your preference.

Not a manicure fan, as my hands get bashed up with physical labour.  I did have French manicured acryllic nails a few years ago, but gave those up because they would break as I laced up my hockey skates.

It's not a spa....I guess it's an RMT (?)  I've never had a manicure either....I too am a little less than delicate when it comes to my hands. lol

Enjoy your massage.  You might even be able to relax and have a little nap.

How about pedicures?

I've only had a pedicure once in my life and have never had a manicure.  I don't like to keep long nails because I type all the time.

I've never had a massage done before so I can't comment on that one. I find it a bit uncomfortable to let another person other than hubby (and the doctor!) but from what I hear most ppl enjoy the massages.

I've done the French manicure and liked it. Not sure if I will do it again as I need my fingers to do work. With the French manicure, you're kinda like handicapped  as your nails look so pretty, it's virtually hard to do anything else like cooking! I didn't particularly care of the face they use un-sterilized instruments to cut your dead skin. However, if you've never had a manicure before, I do recommend it at least once. Just to see what's it's like.

Either way, you're a lucky lady, Ms. PC.

Not sure Miss purelife.  Sawdust said he'd call for an appointment yesterday....but he was swamped at work and didn't quite get around to it.  He went a while back....his first massage as well....and he said it was wonderful.

Awww, a massage at a more medical type of facility is nothing like a massage from a proper spa. BTW, some high end spas do employ RMTs, so you can claim part of the cost with your insurance provider :)

I'm sure you will enjoy it anyway - just tell your therapist that it's your first time and they will help put you at ease. But honestly, do yourself a favor and book yourself (or get your husband) a massage at a spa - there's nothing more relaxing and rejuvinating than an hour long massage followed by a steam....

Thanks Carrie (and welcome by the way)

I'm not sure what this place would be classified as.  It's not a medical facility, but not a spa.  Is there something in between ?  I can't wait.  It's Monday.  (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/3.gif)

If it isn't an RMT then cancel it.  Presumably you or your husband work and have extended health coverage.  Such plans only cover RMTs and some require a referral from an MD.  Nobody massages better than an RMT and given it will be free (remimbursement claim), don't pay for other massages until you've used up your yearly maximum on the plan.  Only then does it make sense to pay for massages, but you might as well just keep on going to the RMT that you will have developed a relationship with.

It is an RMT.  (I had to ask hub, as I know nothing about these matters)   He has been to this person, and said it was wonderful.

Check your group benefits booklet.  You may need a referral, which usually has to be the same date as the receipt for the first massage, or earlier.  Also, check the booklet for the yearly maximum and the co-insurance.  I'm going to have many massages this month all covered 100%.

No....we don't need referrals either.....100% coverage.  (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/3.gif)

Right on! I'll say it again, you're very lucky! I wish I had coverage that covers massages.

Not sure stretch.  I thought at first it was unlimited....but not so sure about that.

So how did it go????

The first time I got a massage, I looked through the headrest, the masseuse's feet were so pretty they gave me an erection.

When she asked me to flip over, I was terrified that she'd see my erection.

She saw it and gasped. I thought that she was going to kick me out thinking that I was only there to get my kicks from getting a massage, but she kept on massaging and everything was ok.

  :)

I like getting massages and looking through the face rest and admiring my therapists pretty toes.

She wears flip flops when she works on me.

Everyting but the privates! they are fantastic!

I have had hundreds of profeesional massages.I go all the time.

they get pretty expensive though,so that kind of sucks.

Always try to get a RMT [registered massage therapist] especially if your at all sore.

Not all spas use RMT some just use people trained in relaxation massage. they are o.k. but don't really know all the right spots to work if you have any kind of pain issues.

enjoy your massage, you may find you become addicted to them like I am.

I never did say how it went.  I guess probably because it was the most disappointing experience.  Not what I was expecting at all.  I'd likely not do it again.  (//forums/richedit/smileys/Sad/11.gif)

Where did you go for your massage?  I hope one bad massage has not turned you off all together. You have to be comfortable with a stranger touching your body or you may be too tense to enjoy it and just relax.

for me I love them, and could have one every day if they weren't so expensive.
