We need to liberate ourselves from this madness, Republic![/p]That said NBC did the same thing at the end of Beijing. Said 'the splendour of the the Canadian Rockies.'

[/p]"From that city you can see some very, very tall mountains ... and these mountains are called ..." Ms. Jean asked, before proclaiming: "The Rockies."[/p] Cue freshman senator, B.C. resident and Olympic ski legend Nancy Greene, with a geography crash course.[/p] "No, it's the Coast Mountains," Ms. Greene said.[/p] In an exchange captured by CTV, Ms. Jean laughs at her mistake, turning off-camera to an unseen woman said to be Ms. Greene.[/p] "We can also call them the Rockies, no?" she asked.[/p] No, we can't. There are seven different mountain ranges in mainland southern B.C., including the Coast Mountains, where the Games will be held, and the Rockies far to the east. Ms. Jean skipped the Purcell, Selkirk, Cariboo, Monashee and Cascade ranges.[/p]
Whatev. People around the world have heard of the Rocky Mountains...if they want to fly to YVR and throw their tourist dollars around town, I'm ok with them calling the mountains whatever name.
lol typical mistake made by everybody in Québec. The "Rockies" is used to described all the mountains from Alberta to the Pacific.
I've just always assumed they didn't know anything existed beyond The Rockies. (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/4.gif) [/DIV]

Trudeau did say Canada ended at the BC/Alberta border or something like that.
BCers I've met think of themselves differently anyway and 'back east' people are like 'where's the Tim Horton's?'
lol Oh yes that mystical train ride all PQ and BQ politicians took as college kids that turned them into Quebec nationalists. lol

Just remember, this is our currency of the future....

[/DIV]Trudeau was an odd man for saying that. He and Ottawa was probably more disliked by Manitoba, Saskatchewan, and Alberta than BC. Maybe he was sucking up to the praries at the expense of BC?
And who cares if some Americans don't know the difference between the Rockies or the Coastals. I wouldn't know the difference between Alabama and Arkansas, and I don't want to know.
I don't think anyone said anything about Americans.....or did I miss it ?

NBC is American no? Or can Canadians really understand they are in a different country?
Ahh ! Humble apologies. I DID miss it. I thought we were dissing Quebec. (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
(//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/4.gif) I thought you'd like that one.
I kind of agree with None. We seem to get some kind of demented pleasure in criticizing the Americans for not knowing Canadian Geography, and yet I suspect many of us are equally clueless about the States.
*yes SD...I know you know more about Canadian geography than most (if not all) Canadians.

Yes We are among you... Be effraid, be very effraid rocky mountaineers (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/4.gif) [/DIV]
Quebec is kind of like that cat in your avatar. Very pretty, but don't forget about the claws.

Ah no worries, some people think its cool, others think I'm a secret spy infiltrating Canadian society or some are completely floored that I completely change their life view and they have this sort of rebirth awakening and announce on the radio that they've ran into some sort of messianic human being and I become an urban legend. (not kidding, I avoid women who work at college radio stations to this day). lol
You change their life view on geography ? How do you change a life view on geography ? What IS a life view on geography ? [img height=20 src="vny!://www.pogo.com/images/chat/stare.gif" width=20 border=0]
Human Geography encompasses all art faculties.
One people have the perception that Americans don't know anything about the outside world and pompus asses, and then they run into me, of course they'd faint. lol
I mean the girl met me when I was wearing my Canadiens t-shirt and Roots hoodie, talked to her about Canadian politics, culture, life, society, history etc for a good 45 minutes. She then ran down to the station and proclaimed live on the radio about the mysterious American in the Habs t-shirt who changed her view of the world and her life.

Really? I have met some very well educated, worldy Americans.
Well the stereotype is out there, and I've dealt with it on many occasions. First night in Canada I thought I was going to get jumped when I walked up and ordered pizza at this one place. I said I was from Vancouver for a while until I knew it was safe. lol

thats weird? you sound paranoid.
i know all about stereotypes. i have been called an American for living in the Toronto area? Toronto is as Canadian as anywhere else in Canada. Also, I am supposed to be some nightlife freak, wearing ultra hip clothes. we are a blue collar family. I wear casual sports clothes usually. give me a pub and a game of darts with Metallica playing on the juke.

Pffft...a Habs shirt!!??
I can't imagine a 45 minute conversation, with a complete stranger no less, that could change my world and my life.
pc, maybe if they were a really good hypnotist. HA.
sportsdude, if i met an american that knew Canadian geography, and politics very in depth. I would think "ok, so he (or she), likes to read, neat", and continue on with my other thoughts of how much I can't wait to get home and have a hot bath.
lol...or maybe if it was Ghandi.
ghandi. Or God Herself!
LOL....but even she'd have to talk awful fast to change my world in 45 minutes. (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/4.gif)
Well, now that you mention it....I WAS transformed after I saw your zoom. [img onclick="selecte('blush.gif');" alt=emoticon src="vny!://www.pushupstairs.com/images/emoticon/blehnet/blush.gif" border=0]
