Title: Permanent Residency?
Post by: Flash on Jul 06 08 01:25
Hi, I was just wondering what are the basics to have permanent residency in US. And also will residency allow you to work in US? I'm interested in such things as how long it will take, any costs, etc. (and yes, I am clear as a crystal)
Thanks

I'm not sure but I think you need a work visa or something like that to gain a green card in USA?

Why not google it or go to the government website and find out yourself?

The line is really long. Best to go to Mexico and hitch a ride with a coyote. ;) j/k
Get into the lottery. You've got 1 and 100,000 or something to get a green card, but that's where you should start.

But the green card is not the one to give me permanent residency right? I have allways seen chinese from Vancouver going in US to live and work and send their children to school. How come they are given PR so fast but I would have a 1 in million chance?

A permanent resident immigrant is issued a green card.........a permanent resident enjoys all the benefits of a citizen except he cannot vote and  is restricted on the length he resides outside the US.  Anyone who can afford to send their children to the US to school can on student visas.  BTW even US citizens have to pay non resident fees if they go to school in another state until their residencies are established in the new state.

The lotto is only one of many ways to immigrate to the US.........if you're female, young and pretty, convince SD to marry you...that will be a fast way to get the green card ........and he gets to stay and work in Canada

Or you can be male and marry SD in BC or California.

It would only work if I held residence in California, I live in MO, they hate gays, it says so right in the state constitution "We the people of Missouri hateth the gays". So that doesn't work. lol Plus Rush Limbaugh's brother is the Chief Justice, so the liberation of the gay people ain't happening soon if you get my drift... You can't live out in the open here, the 'gay safe houses' aren't marked with rainbow flags for example (except on pride weekend). They're the new black. Someone hires a gay person and its "ohh did you here we hired a gay guy 'shocked look'". Same as post civil rights era "we hired a negro" line. Things never change around here.

so sorry out of luck.

Incorrect......you need not be a Cal. residence, unlike Mass.  Gays have been coming all over to get married.

It wouldn't be recognized in Missouri, that's what I'm saying... The guy for the Democrats who will probably become Gov, said Missouri will not recognize.
Maybe I don't know the California law like they're telling me here. If a gay couple gets married in California and lives in Missouri, they'd be recognized in Cali (for the time being) but not in Missouri where they reside. Missouri has said, they will not recognize. So its a dead end.

ATTENTION LADIES (and Gents outside of Missouri)...

Get your Green Card here!!!

eligible bachelor, university educated, a whiz at Google, 6'8", big feet, looks like the dude from Dawson's Creek, too big for the weights at the gym.

Must like random coversations, sematical arguements and a hodge-podge of political theories.

Send Sportsdude a PM if interested.

Oh, if they require you to stay mostly in the state to keep the green card then I guess that wouldn't work for me :)

huh!   that's not what I meant, you can travel or live in any state in the US.  You cannot go and leave the country after getting a green card for an extended period and expected the US to let you back in.
