May I suggest a 5 minute stop at Crater Lake? lol
I will pass your question on to Mr LM. He used to travel in that neck of the woods. And, before he met me- that was his type of trip- photographing rocks and wildlife.
Now we tend to do more museums, historical reinactments, etc. The kids and I are more interested in human history than natural history...in general.
How about Watrous/Little Manitou Lake? Qu'Appelle, Duck Lake or follow the Lous Riel trail.
It sounds like you're going to have a fantastic road trip, Michel! :)
There's the Corn Palace in Mitchell, but that's on the other side of South Dakota.
In Idaho I'm sure you could find a Spud restaurant that just serves potatoes, up in the highlands of Idaho on I-84 I saw a place, same place I got hit by the biggest tumbleweed that ever existed.
Since you're going through the Montana route. There's the Missouri Headwaters in Logan. Then I really loved the Crow lands south of Billings. Then you could stop at the Crazy Woman Creek sign in Wyoming.
Most of my adventures I just pull over at an exit with a desolate road that leads to nothing but a mountain and keep driving.
I am not sure? I know if it was winter I would suggest Big Mountain Montana. Best ski hill in the NW USA. I really don't know the prairie areas too well except the Alberta cities. I am usually seeking out a bike trail or ski hill. Never spent much time in the area you are heading.
Largest Baked Potato in Blackfoot, Idaho.
Wow!! Sounds like you're off to have some kinda adventure there, Michel! So jealous! Have fun and be safe.
Right. Like I can just up and go. Have you any idea the amount of work you have to do just for a road trip? I have to pack for three babies!! Too much........
You forgot Advil and vodka. (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/2.gif)

We are doing a road trip too. It will be more biking/camping/lakes/beers, not so much for historic sites.
But as rough draft, I want to spend a couple days at Lake Chelan, then south from there. Probably through Yakima then west to Portland to see a friend there. Then from there, we will continue south, no really set plans. As long as we are in LA at the end of July for X-Games (**** I CAN"T WAIT...) scuse my potty mouth.
Then, on the way home, I think we are going to take our time through Hwy 40 Arizona and roast our butts off. Then up through Bryce Canyon possibly? Work our way over to Colorado. Colorado, there is so many mountains and areas to choose from, we are going to just wing it. From there we will make our way back to BC through Utah and Idaho. Come back in through the Creston/Porthill border crossing so I get my Kootenays fix. Kootenays mid summer, you can't beat it.
Michel- maybe the cat would like to go on a scenic holiday with you? Garfield always goes on holidays with Jon.
Woah, that's a huge trip Van.
^Yes it is. We will see how it goes. We are taking 3 weeks so we will play it by ear towards the end. If we start running out of time we will start heading back toward the border. Kind of a 'whatever' holiday. Take it as it comes. The places mentioned are all tentative for now.
HEY MICHEL !!!!! Missed you !
So where are you now ?
Ahhhh......so you saw all kinds of wonderful things ? Hope you share some !
Poor kitty.....she will be fine in a couple days.
Sounds like a GREAT adventure Michel.
We were lucky getting photos of the mountain goats in South Dakota. We came around a curve only to see two huge goats laying on the side (and partly on the road). They were not phased by the car at all, and we stopped RIGHT beside them.....snapped a few photos, and moved on when they made motion to get up.....lol
Mountain goats. They were quite massive and very beautiful.
I always feel lucky when I get to see these things. I remember once I 'rescued' a humming bird who had gotten herself trapped in my friends sunroom. Poor thing had exhausted itself. I caught her in my hands and took her outside....and for days after, I felt 'chosen'. I had the same feeling when I got dive bombed by a hawk in the yard, but at the last second, he brushed past my hair, turned and flew back. Hubby was watching as it happened,
I know.......it's silly, really. But none the less, it's true. I was walking on air for days. (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
I saved a fly at a Dairy Queen when I was 10. I caught it, took it outside and let it fly away, while everybody wanted it to get squished.
Do you mean to say that you don't do these things any more, SD? Shame on you!
lol no. That's the first 'saving' that came to mind.
