Just when he was about to be honoured the Mark Twain prize for humour.

RIP Funnyman.

-George Carlin
Awww. He was a great comedian.....especially in his earlier years. (Michel, I think you might be thinking of Robin Williams ?)
This is the George Carlin as his funniest stage. He was a very visual comedian and could crack me up just on his facial expressions alone.

I think one of his funniest routines.....and there were many, was "A place for my Stuff", but probably his most recognized skit was on the Seven Filthy Words or Seven words you can't say on television.
He was the first host of Saturday Night Live. You might also recognize "The Hippy Dippy Weatherman".
One of George Carlins observations : [SPAN class=body][FONT face=Verdana size=2]If God had intended us not to masturbate he would've made our arms shorter.[/FONT][/SPAN]
He has also been credited with the more philisophical quote (along with a couple others) ......Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.
Dont think I ever really watched him.
He was in the Bill & Ted movies.
I liked his humour. My dad was a bigtime fan. He was the same generation. Crazy 60s rebels, gone mainstream by the 80s.
Add: What I respected most about him was he refused to be a yuppie sellout for the Ed Sullivan show. They pleaded with him to get a haircut and wear 'proper' clothes. He refused and wore tattered jeans and grew his hair even longer. Ed Sullivan slowly realized that people still loved Carlin for who he was.

Took a while but I remember him from Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventures. Remember him as Rufus?
They played some great old clips of him last night. His expressions were hilarious. His comedy was always on the edge......well....obviously some of it was over the edge. Apparently he appeared on the Johnny Carson show something like 135 times.
I recently discovered that another comedian I really liked is also no longer alive.....and hasn't been for a few years. I had no idea. Not as big a name as George Carlin, but a funny guy. Mitch Hedberg. I used to see him on the comedy network....and decided to google him. I was curious about him, because I had always thought he looked like he was doing his routine with his eyes closed (behind his sunglasses)....and sure enough he was.....but also discovered he died in 2005.

I forgot he was in these shows.
If you get a chance, Youtube some of his early 70s material. It is a shame he did the Bill and Ted movies because that is what a lot of people will know him for.
On a side note, look at Keannu Reeves (sp?) eyes. I wish I was half that happy at the best of times!

Thanks Michel for sharing these!
Carlin was real! Not much 'real' happening these days in the world of comedy.
Of course you could watch Dane Cook talk about farts and stuff. That always sends a strong message.
Did you go to the Just For Laughs festival in Montreal?
I love the tv episodes where they play jokes on people on the street in Montreal.

I just google the name, I think I recognized the guy, well anyway, I seems to recognized the "style" altough I base myself on pure impression and talk without knowing really. There's unfortunalty too much of this type in Québec Humour.[/DIV]
LOL! I find more humour on DS than listening to Dane Cook.
Hey! btw, today is a holiday in Quebec non?
I had coffee today with a former co-worker/buddy from Montreal. He mentioned if he still lived back at home, he would have slept in today! LOL! Too bad buddy, the Best Place on Earth says YOU WORK today...but not too hard.(//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)

It was great to have the entire cycling path to me alone.

BC Day weekend.
Must be nice to have your own holiday to yourself!
So, Newfoundland has like 5 holidays to themselves. They're special apparently. lol
I hate those holidays, when you're off and nobody else is. It's just weird. Sitting at the park staring at the ground, nothing to do, depressing.
No idea, but I'm not good on holidays, especially if I'm alone. It's like a weekend for me. I'd rather be doing the m-f grind, if I've got nobody to talk to, leads to isolation, lonely, and depressing.
This is the first that I've heard of but this piece of skid is also what he was famous for.

Just reading that made me depressed and sad for you. Jebus Chribst! Sitting at a park staring at the ground on a day off? You need to see someone soon.
The Newfie holidays you speak of, are you talking about St. Paddys, St. George's, Discovery and Orangemen's Day? Those are not stat holidays.
On another note, BC Day is also the same day off in Ontario, Manitoba, NB, NWT, Sask, AB and NS. It is called Civic Holiday in those places.
I believe Alberta gets an extra official holiday with Family Day. I think Ontario is soon to follow.
AND on another note,
SNL is going to play the first episode of SNL this weekend when Carlin hosted. Set your PVRs.
I can't stand being alone. Dunno. Like I crave ppl around me. I want peace and quiet but not all the time. If my kids or hubby aren't around, I don't know what to do with myself.
Family Day???? WHEN will it be FD in BC??? Can we do a petition?
Solitude can be good if it is where you want to be. Solitude and depressed, maybe not so good?
I am not into the big crowds anymore either Michel. But definately I like to be around a few friends on a holiday. Preferably out in the forest too. Enough beer in me to make a bad decision, but not so much beer I am puking.

It is the Monday weekend after Valentines I think. Yes it should be Federal.

Crowd can be interesting, it all depends what they're shouting for. Saw a 2 minutes of the show yesterday on Radio-Canada while zapping channels. The artist on stage says "well I don't know when we gonna sail away (from Canada), but one thing is for sure, everybody here can raise the flag high. Are you here Quebeckers ? Raise your flag high". Than he proceed to sing and shout raise the flag raise the flag not stop in front of a delirious crowd waving Québec flags.
Those orgy of chauvinism and nationalist poison are not my bag. I refuse to be associated to any nation other than in a cultural and historical way.
I always wonder if PEI was going to sail, or float away?(//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Teasing/12.gif)
We might notice when Bud the Spud is reported as missing. Then the RCMP might go looking for PEI.
PEI probably won't sail away (starts singing Styx Come Sail Away), it will most likely go the Atlantis route. Sink. lol
George Carlin died? Good riddance.

This is how I felt about DV when I heard it might be dead.
A part of me wants DV to just die peacefully.
But a part of me wants DV to stay because I have so many fond (and not so fond) memories and I'm not ready to let go of them just yet.
We will miss you George!
