BC Government just announced joint project with City of Vancouver. It's a fully retractable rain umbrella to cover downtown core.
Will also function as snow shield (eliminating cost of snow removal from streets) and sun/heat shield (reducing energy loads on air conditioning systems).
Kewl!!!
That is kewl. I wanna see pics. :)

Exactly like this. But REALLY big.
It will stretch from Cordova to Pacific Blvd and from Thurlow St to the Georgia Viaduct.
I'm trying to imagine how that's going to look like above us. What about the sun? Can we still see the sky?
Chief Medical Health Officer Dr Patricia Daly is optimistic that this umbrella will reduce the incidence of melanoma.
You'd all be like the 'bubble boy'.
Do you know when they'll be putting this up?
We won't see birds, planes....
I'm going to look out for this.
Is it going to be the 8th Wonder of the World?
They can't even afford a new retractable roof for B.C. place.....(//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/4.gif)
Michel.....don't make me come over there.
I bet they're gonna tax us to death for it..........

Why do they need a retractable roof for BC place, it rains all the time. How many days can it possibly be open ! (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Teasing/5.gif)
I agree JJ. I think for the amount of the year where it would actually be practical to have it open....is the very impracticality of it. It's an unessecary expense, to me.

That is without a doubt, the funniest looking cat I have EVER seen. Poor little guy. I wonder if the other cats laugh at him.
.........and the rain water running off the umbrella will be a giant water fall
10 bucks it will have somewhere the giant mug of Gordon Campbell on it.
The Sun King blocks out the Sun. lol
I wondered that too PC cuz I didn't see a link to an article.

Halp. I'm surrounded by skeptic cats and suspicious cats.
haha Lil Me I believe ya. ;)
Link please. (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/4.gif)
I think the guy is putting it up right now! (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Teasing/12.gif)
ADD: It looks like we may not need this at all because the sun is starting to peek from the gloomy clouds.
I think it would be more practical to issue one of these for each Vancouver resident. Huh? Huh ? Whaddaya think ?

And you guys laughed at the large retractable umbrella concept. See, we need one today.
Let's intsall the umbrella...or go lynch Russ LaCate the meteorologist at YVR. It's all HIS fault.
I think YOU should talk to Russ Lacate. You're much more informed than us about these things.

*packs rope, smoke bombs, duct tape and sharp daggers*
Off I go to the airport...
Good call on the duck tape.
Russ Lacate unavailable at YVR. Apparently he's freezing to death and has wet feet, just like the rest of us.
I had to go back and reread that post a few back.. all I got out of it the first time was 'yada yada yada Lynch Russ'.
I was getting worried.. lol.
I still think they should just pass another law outlawing it. They pass enough other useless laws.
