Stephen Harper's Conservative government was shaken to the core Monday after Foreign Affairs Minister Maxime Bernier resigned over a security breach involving classified documents. The prime minister told an extraordinary evening news conference on Parliament Hill that Bernier's controversial relationship with a woman linked to the Hells Angels was not a factor in the decision. [/p]But the resignation announcement came a scant two hours before Julie Couillard was broadcast on a French-language television network. "This is about one thing and that is a failure to uphold expected standards on government documents," Harper said in the Commons foyer. "It is a very serious mistake - regardless of who the minister is, regardless of personal life - to leave classified documents in an unsecured location." [/p] Two sources told The Canadian Press that Bernier left sensitive material at Couillard's apartment, her lawyer notified the Foreign Affairs department about the documents on the weekend, and the documents were returned. One source said the package included a mix of classified material and other briefing notes publicly available through the Access to Information Act.
The package, he said, was preparation material for Bernier's trip to the NATO summit in Bucharest - where Canada announced its intention to remain in Afghanistan until 2011. Just hours before the axe fell on Bernier, the prime minister had dismissed the whole affair. "I have no intention to comment on a minister's former girlfriend," the prime minister said to wrap up a news conference earlier Monday with visiting Ukrainian President Victor Yushchenko. "I don't take this subject seriously." He's taking it seriously now.

Well she's now saying he's ruined her life.
ouch.
I wonder if he sniffed her seat and followed her scent home.
while holding classified docs, probably.
Funny Harper said the relationship ended months ago, yet this happened last month. lol
The definition of relationship ended probably meant that sexual intercourse ended, but I think they still "see" each other for things like "lean to ride my bike?" They probably exchanged text messages saying "I'd like to ride you tonight."
Maybe. Still, Harper contradicted himself which is always hysterical.
You just don't walk around with classified information. Usually aides make this mistake but the FOREIGN MINISTER the official Representive to the World for the Canadian Government? LOL
Bernier was out of his league when he was promoted, Harper just used him to see if he could get votes in Quebec for his precious majority.
Sorry, I was more interested in how the girl looked than the Political story itself.
lol...
*refrains from comment but understands* lolr
Rumour has it Harper gave Bernier a lecture about Julie's low-cut dress. These are photos from Bernier's official swearing-in ceremony.
I think that's what George Bush said that to Bernier.
Anyway know Coulliard said she was bugged.
Harper denies again.
CSIS says its possible that she was.
lol
At least we all know that David Emerson has no chance of sleeping with Julie Couillard.
Yea....but what about Bush ?
From interview with Julie Couillard:
On the revealing dress she wore to the Cabinet shuffle:[/p] "It was my first function, the first time I was exposed to protocol, so I relied on Maxime. ... He said, 'The dress you wore when we went to supper with [Independent MP] Andre Arthur was pretty.' I said, 'Yes, it's a pretty dress, but it's more for the evening, and he said, 'No it's OK, put a jacket over top and it will be fine.' I should have listened to my feminine instinct that told me not to wear that dress."[/p]
Well the rumour is that Cannon will be the next FM or Fortier. I wouldn't touch Fortier since he's un-elected and that would just be icing on the cake in hypocrisy due to Fortier being an appointed Senator in the Federal Cabinet who is accountable to no one and Harper ran on so called accountablity in the last election to get elected lol.
Ah, I read an article in either the Toronto Star or Globe and Mail that said Bush made a comment to Bernier about him bagging a good one or something.
So he's crass AND a buffoon ?
It's Bush. It's been well documented that the snicker he always has on his face is real. He's a typical rural Southerner type. I've got a few like him in my family, if a female friend of mine (doesn't have to be a gf) came down for Christmas or something. It'd be snicker snicker poke poke embarass the girl and the guy. etc.

This one ?
Yes. Everytime he makes a joke and does that 'hehe hehe' that's his true personality. He's got that country club snob mixed with rural/southern/rude attitude towards people. He's the type that wants to embarass you in front of others. That's Bush.
