It's getting really frightening.  To see such basics going through the roof.....bread, rice...(they have limits right now as to how much rice you can buy).  When it starts costing you as much to get to work as you make when you get there....what would be the point ?  Very scary.

lol! I should clarify. I would use a gun to hunt down an elk in the Kootenays. Couldn't just live off of marshmallows.

In spite of the fact that a family of 4 could dine off my lovely beast for a week....he shall remain safe with me.

lol i saw real hippies, they live in tofino.

well this place is invested with bunnies and no lynx around from what I've seen because the bunnies pig out in the open all day long and night on the grass.

there not even the native bunnies, they're black, black and white and completely grey bunnies. The babies are out though and they are really funny.

He sees bears regularly too.  Yesterday he saw an unlucky bear.  Always makes him sad to see them even near a highway. It's such a reminder of how much we have crowded the poor things out.(//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Sad/11.gif)

Yes Michel....very sad.  He said it was a bad one.  It's just so wrong to see them so close to the ways of a city.  As thrilled as I am when I see one....immediately after, I feel sad.

Yup...there is quite a large population of elk on the Island.  I think it was a rather old study....maybe 2002 or 2003, but it stated that there are approximately 3200 elk in British Columbia....3000 of which are on Vancouver Island.

East Kootenays seems to be loaded with elk. Friends out there always have a deep freezer full. best steaks I ever had were elk.

The bear was dead Michel.  Hub said it was VERY messy...so he must have been hit at maximum speed. (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Sad/9.gif)

never seen a dead bear on the side of the road due to being hit by a car. I got think that the bear did serious damage to whoever hit it.

worst I've ever seen besides somebodies pet dog, a bunch of deer.

That is gross. I am no hunter, but have some friends and family that do. I heard a poacher was caught in the Kimberley area, and basically got such a bad name, he had to move!

There was a dead grizzly on my way to Jasper last time I went there. I was so f*cking angry, there's not a lot left at that latitude.

Full of poaching also in northern BC. Early in the morning I saw once a dead caribou shot just in the middle of the road, his head been removed for a trophy, all the meat was left there and it was not hunting season.

I'm with ya Michel.  I have nothing in me that can comprehend this.  Hunting for 'survival' is one thing.....and I even have a hard time choking down THAT concept....but trophy hunting should be a criminal offence !!!!!!!!

Even as a non hunter, if a friend is going to give me some elk steaks, I am in heaven! Such a clean protein. Eating beef steak after having an elk steak is dissapointing. Elk is good also because it is wild, but doesn't have a gamey taste.

  Agreed, poachers should be poached!!
