Title: Pond Scum for alternate fuel
Post by: Lise on Apr 14 08 05:53
Heck, why not? I'd drive a car powered by scum if I don't have pay outrageous amount at the gas line for sure.

Pond scum' the ultimate in Green energy? [H5]Thursday, 3 April 2008[/H5] [P class=byline]

[A href="vny!://www.valcent.net/s/Home.asp"]Valcent Products[/A] are looking to algae as a source of renewable bio-fuel for the future. The El Paso, Texas based firm joined forces with Canadian alternative fuel company [A href="vny!://www.globalgreensolutionsinc.com/s/Home.asp"]Global Green Solutions[/A] to patent a revolutionary algae growing system.

The Vertigro patented technology grows the algae in hanging and rotating plastic bags, removing the plant from grimy ponds. As Glen Kertz, CEO of Valcent , [A href="vny!://edition.cnn.com/2008/TECH/science/04/01/algae.oil/?imw=Y&iref=mpstoryemail"]told CNN[/A] this week:

"By going vertical, you can get a lot more surface area to expose cells to the sunlight. It keeps the algae hanging in the sunlight just long enough to pick up the solar energy they need to produce, to go through photosynthesis."

Watch the video of how [A href="vny!://edition.cnn.com/2008/TECH/science/04/01/algae.oil/?imw=Y&iref=mpstoryemail#cnnSTCVideo"]Vertigro works[/A].

Interesting.. I posted this article up a few weeks ago. SD told me I was a fool! lol

I agree lise.. it looks good. Alot better than the type we have now. Also interesting about how they say it works better next to an industrial area with lots of CO2 coming out of it.

lol. i meant it wasn't worth it, we have to drastically cut down on consumption for non-fossil fuels to work, without having the world go into chaos and war because we are using food for fuel. etc.

I agree. Although we have tons of wheat go to waste in the fields due to quotas.

Thats why I like the idea of 'pond scum'. If we looks into it more and get it going, it will become cheaper and cheaper. It looks good now with the high cost of oil on the open market.

Putting these things next to industry will hopefully help reduce co2 as well.

I would still like to learn how Pond Scum became classified as a food.

if pond scum became a fuel source we would be having 1000km/litre cars. its too scarce. Not to go distopian/apopcalyptic but oil is going to run out and there's no plan b. World oil production is going to peak around 2010 or 2012 i don't listen to the oil companies saying it will be around 2025 that's total bullshit. Consumption by 'the developing world' is only going to increase to much higher levels. World economy is going collapse, globalization will be finished, because the dependency theory will not be possible anymore.
[a href="vny!://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dependency_theory"]vny!://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dependency_theory[/a]

anyway enjoy the future.

lol okay summary:
we are running out of oil and the economic system is going to collapse. Because it only works through the exploitation of the poor countries or in this case "developing and lesser developed countries". Once the workers movement hits the sweat shops of Cambodia, Vietnam, Africa etc. The system collapses because without them, we in the western world have nothing.

Oh boy....a slave alien.  Maybe it's them that think pond scum is food.

I think someone should come up with a way to install a commode in the drivers seat....and have an engine that runs on pee.  Just think of the time you'd save and it's a renewable resource.

I guess I'm too late.  PEE POWER !!!!

[DIV class=content] Are we ready for pee power?

[A href="vny!://crave.cnet.co.uk/peripherals/0,39029462,49292553,00.htm"]NoPoPo Batteries[/A] are powered by squirting liquid into the cell. It seems they can run on nearly any type of liquid (beer, juice, saliva, etc.) but, incredibly, urine made the list too.

They can last (turned on) for 20 hours at a time and have a shelf-life (turned off) of about 10 years, which is much longer than standard batteries.

NoPoPo stands for "non-pollution power" and the batteries back that up by containing no harmful chemicals, such as mercury or lead.
