We don't get a refund. We have to pay :(
I hope you don't have to pay too much LM.
My parents have to fork out 4 grand ish. Yikes!
ADD: I selected "Pay Bills" option. If I could, I would also select "Spend money down in the States!"
I hope so too.
Gotta do my tzxes sometime this week.
I'm uninspired and unmotivated.

Me too! I actually have until June to file, but might as well do it now. My balance is due Apr 30, anyways.
i got a tax refund sheet, it was optional though. didn't fill it out.
Add it to savings until I decide what I'm going to treat myself to.
Buy yourself a brand new hat, for sure!
ADD: Finally got my taxes done. We both need to pay :( I had payroll deductions withheld during the year, so I only need to pay a bit more. Mr LM had no payroll deductions, so he needs to pay quite a bit more- but a chunk of it is also a CPP contribution.
Maybe I'm too optimistic, but I choose to view CPP contributions as a future credit instead of a current liability.
I've just received something called a "pre-tax refund". Does anyone have any idea what this means? It sounds as though I'm getting a refund for tax which I haven't paid - can this be right?
Go on...take the money and run...

you didn't file 2007 Fed to get the Bush's rebate?
Savings. What else?
Your deadline has been extended until May 6 to e-file.
Had to write the cheque and mail today!
Good for you! I netfiled a couple of days ago and paid at the bank yesterday.

No Canada.
US stuff would be sent to my U.S. residence since I officially live in two residences, I believe. No US stuff comes here, but I'm sure it will, eventually. The IRS people have to be the most incompetent people on the planet. I highly doubt they're smart of enough to realize I live in Canada (and will permenantly).
They've first have to get over the whole 'SD is two people' thing. Its rather comical to get to tax forms with your nick name that you use 24/7 and your official name (this is the 3rd year now they've done this, the joke is getting a bit old/sad that they can't figure out that I am the same person). One of these days I'll just go up to the nearest IRS building and just say "hey guys I'm not two people, I didn't clone myself."
That seemed to have worked with the Democratic Party, they stopped sending me stuff after I wrote them a letter saying I was "moving to Canada to seek a better life, please take me off your mailing lists, call lists, email lists asking me for money".
Anyway the Canada tax rebate was for tution in book fees. 280 bucks. I feel stupid now, could of used that money to get back home. Although it would of been in Canadian so it probably would have just gone to the bank account for August when I come back. Oh well, next time.
I wonder if Gordo's cash giveaway for going 'green' applies to me. Anybody know when he starts handing out cash to everyone?
I owe. Im kinda in the same boat as you LM, but Im in a grey area. Hard to explain really. Im trying something new this year that will hopefully make a HUGE difference.
I wouldnt think you would be eligable SD for the refund here. But again, you never know.
Yeah I don't know either. I sort of fall into the grey area. I'm a driver in BC, but ICBC doesn't know who the heck I am (well they might now after the red light ticket I think I'm going to get). Weirder things have happened. If it comes, I'll take the money, but I personally see the whole thing as a farce. If I wasn't a student I'd give the money to a homeless shelter or something.
I think the sadder part is that BC still has to pay health premiums. Alberta finally dropped their premiums. Why not BC?
Got my Notice of Assessment. CCRA recalculated my provincial taxes and I need to pay another $89.
Bugga !
Why don't they just mind their own business. (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/4.gif)
Geepers! Why don't they just tell you that you get an extra $89 back!
Mr PL hasn't received his assessment back yet but he owes quite a bit... hopefully, we can pay in installments.
CCRA is happy to receive the money however you want to pay.
Sucks, though.
It sure is taking a while. Mr PL hasn't even received his notice of assessment and he filed his taxes a month ago.
At least payment plans work with CCRA or we'd be screwed (financially). :(
Did you go for the direct deposit option, Michel?
I know that cheques take longer to issue and send versus direct deposit is much quicker. I'm guessing you didn't receive your notice of assessment?
Have you tried calling them?
Mr PL tried calling them yesterday but he couldn't get through. And their website says "We answer calls within 2 minutes" What a bunch of bologne.
If you don't recall entering your cheque information on the software, it means that you didn't submit for direct deposit. And if you get your GST cheque in the mail, it is even more likely that you don't have direct deposit, but you could sign up for it by sending them a form. (on CCRA website)
They should send you a Notice of Assessment. Refund cheque/deposit usually comes with it.
I would tell them your new address because when MrPL told them his new address, they still sent mail to the old address. They finally have it right. We're lucky that our old landlord is very nice. :)
Or you could pay Canada Post to have your mail redirected if your landlord won't send it to you.
How long did it take?
Did you manage to get to SK, Michel?
Oops, I've posted this in the wrong thread.
BUMP.
I was motivated to file early this year because we're getting a healthy refund this year instead of needing to pay, like we usually do. We incorporated and put ourselves on company payroll for 2008, so we overpaid on source deductions.
*CHA-CHING*
I'd have a toast to celebrate my tax refund, but in my tired, zombie-like state, another drink will throw me over the edge. (getting old...I fear...)
Not doing anything exciting with the cash. Buying groceries. Oh and paying MrLM's membership fees to the professional association. *nudge nudge reminder*

ooooooh subtle ... I hate those guys - pompous old boys club designed for engineers milking us for money ...
Nice job on the taxes BTW.
I REALLY appreciate it.
You know i would let that slide for 10 years before i got to it.
Tax forms ... gag me with a pitch fork.
I feel somewhat better when 1/2 the appointees for the position of US commerce secretary (or whatever that position was exactly) have screwed up or failed to pay taxes.
Let's see the brightest financial minds in america can't figure it out ... what chance does a hack like me who to Econ 101 and eeked out a passing grade in math 102 have???
I didn't get much this year but it will be going directly into savings. Mr PL's tax refund is to pay his debt with the gov't. (long story, wasn't his fault) I'm glad he's getting enough to cover remaining balance.
I had offered to do taxes for a bottle of wine (plus payment of the Quicktax filing fee) but only 1 person took me up on my offer. I know for a fact that some of my friends do not file their taxes out of sheer laziness (even if they are due for a refund), but I think they are somewhat protective of their financial secrets. Pretty understandable. lol
Basically, I was thinking about doing tax prep as a sideline business sometime in the future, and wanted to generate a list of client references.
I've been filing taxes for my family members for years, but that doesn't really count for much...
Husband, Mom, Dad, Sister, Gramma, Dead Uncle...
Seems like a more than reasonable payment. And a good way to restock the wine rack.
For your secretive friends.....tell them you'll do it with your eyes closed. Nothing to worry about.
I have no secrets I also have no money, lol.
what type of wine do you like is thier any particular brand ie grey monk ?
