But if they step 7 metres from the building, they will hit another buidling. Downtown is so close to the buildings.
I don't smoke although the 7 metre, 5 metre rule is stupid, people will just smoke in front of walkways. Where you have to hold your breath to walk through. I was shocked at all the smokers here in B.C. when I came here. Never seen so many in a non rural southern environment. Somebody told me that it was A) Everyone is ADD B) Everyone is a pot smoker. lol
People actually smoke less in BC than in other parts of Canada. They only look more numerous because they all stand together outdoors in doorways and under awnings.
Will smokers have to carry tape measures?
If they don't, I will. I'll carry tape measures, measuring tape, measuring cups, spoons, and of course, the ruler! LOL
And to be on the safe side, I'll wear a gas mask and a hard hat.
ah, thanks for the insight lil me.
I was just puzzled, especially at school. When I was at this university in the Seattle area, didn't see anyone smoke at all. Then I came here and it was like I was back home lol.
lol kids, they don't know how to deal with stress.
And safety shoes, Purelife?
lol kids, they don't know how to deal with stress.
SD, didn't you say one time that you drink more when you're stressed?

The CFM boots or the Prostitute heels?
Prostitutes heels for cigarettes, and CFM boots for cigars. Unfortunately I'm not sure of the correct footwear for pipes.

by drinking I mean a glass of wine after a day of work. Which is what i do everyday back in the states.
if by stress means procrastination, well then I'm the king at doing that. I'm probably the worst procrastionator in the world.

And... it depends if the pipe is inhaled or blown...
This thread should be twinned with the shoe thread.
Oh, and I better not forget to carry the STOP sign.

Is it wrong to carry around a water gun with me and spray lit cigarettes if people are around my entrance smoking?!!

I guess they can certainly try to do that, but Security Guards will be keeping a close eye on those that even try.
I wonder if there's a fine.

Super soakers, right?

Of course it's wrong, that's the job of the fire dept.

Just wait and see-- people are gonna complain to the union and WCB. All the gov't offices are gonna have a 6m yellow line painted around the building!!!

That sounds like a normal BC procedure...
OK....now that THAT'S settled, I think the next order of business is to get rid of cell phones in public places.
You like your cell do ya Michel ?
I wish people would stop using cell phones while driving. Some people do some pretty scary things while they are talking. I even saw a guy take his hand off the wheel while he tried to emphasize a point on his phone. I just managed to dodge in time. Nervewracking!
.....and then there's that lovely feeling you get when you're standing there talking to somebody.....face to face...in the flesh.....and they will aswer the phone and talk to 'whoever' right in front of you.
And someone standing in front of you in line at the checkout is having a conversation with someone, who is clearly calling from another planet, because they seem to feel they need to yell. (I thought you only needed to do that when you used the paper cups and string method of communication.)

ROFL!! Another thing is when they use their phone to do a running commentary from one end of the store to the other. I can't understand how anyone can talk that long without saying anything intelligent.

Oh I do. That's my specialty.
But at least I have to good taste to do it in person. [/DIV]
I don't believe that for a minute. You're far too intelligent to blather meaninglessly for any length of time. I attribute my own blathering to a tendency to keep one foot placed firmly in my mouth at all times.
if they ban cell phone driving, then I'm never going to be able to make it driving through flat prairie places (if I'm driving alone).

somewhere in Manitoba^
Are you sure it's Manitioba, it looks like Saskatchewan to me.
Seems to me that if you are concentrating on your conversation, you aren't paying as much attention to the road, SD.
Couldn't a map do the trick, SD?
I'm not one to defend cell phone chatting while driving, but I'm somewhat certain I could drive that stretch blindfolded. Holy DULLSVILLE !!!!!
Cruise control, Miss PC... ya set it and forget it. ;)
Just think of all the gophers.
the pic says its from Manitoba, wait, no I think its Saskatchewan now. lol
well if I'm on a highway, the only car that I've seen for hours is mine. I'm by myself, the radio isn't picking up any stations and I can't find the Ipod connector. I'm going to go mad eventually unless there's a storm or something cool to look at.
Kansas does that to me past Salina. That's when everything goes flat and you're in the rain shadow from the mountains. So no trees. Just yellow everywhere. Its surreal and it makes me go bonkers. I love the eastern part of Kanas because its rolling hills.
Wyoming is the most desolate state I've ever seen, but its beautiful. I don't mind desolation, heck I'd move to Wyoming in a heart beat. Its just hours after hours of seeing nothing around you, except yellow and its flat, no turns in the road, no houses, people, cars etc. I can listen to nothing but the wind for 3-4hrs but after that, i need to talk to somebody.

SD...you should think about picking up some comedy track CD's....they're great for a long ride....or you can get novels on CD as well.
you know, I've had cruise control on every car I've driven on long trips. Never used it that often. I always seem to forget that I'm actually pushing it down, don't get tired etc. lol
I'll tell ya.....I went through the prairies ONCE.....and it was once too many. Never never again. If I want to get to the east coast, I'm going via the Panama Canal. (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
Can't you just buy another ipod connector or borrow if you're tight on cash?
Or, listen to some cassette tapes.
I was thinking learning German CDs.
Books are great though. I'd listen to the BBC when working at nights, and for a half hour around 3:30 they'd read a book. Now they dropped that in favour of interviews from authors. Richard Dawkins The Selfish Gene comes to mind. Great stuff.
The car I took up here doesn't have a CD player. I've got to funnel everything through the ipod through the adapter.
When you are too sure that there is nothing around you, you relax to the point where you aren't alert. If an animal suddenly crosses the road it takes more time to react.
I like listening to the news. They give you the time every 30mins talk about world events, and I end up commenting on stuff. lol 'conversations with the radio'. lol
Is there much snow lying about, SD?

[/DIV]If you must talk to somebody after "3-4 hours" then why move to a more desolute place like Wyoming? You say that you don't mind desolate... I'm confused.

Here's Kansas: mind numblingly boring

Here's Wyoming:

That's what most of southern Wyoming looks like, you drive through canyons, mountains, then you've got flat parts that look out towards giant buttes. Then in the North you've got Yellowstone and the Tetons.
I'm trying to remember to use speakerphone in the car, even just for checking voice mail while driving.
i use the speaker phone a lot as well.
Wyoming is the home of Jackson Hole and a big chunk of the Rockies, that part of it is cool.
Which part of it is hot?
no idea. Southern Wyoming during the winter looks like Mars.
Im a smoker and I think its pretty common sence not to allow smoking inside public places. Smokers arent the only ones. Outdoors on patios in a section should be okay, but I dont have a problem with going outside for a smoke.
The seven metre or whatever it is rule is retarded. I will go outside the door and smoke, but far enough away I dont bother people going in or out.
EDIT: when the hell did this thread become about lonely highways or whatever the picture of highway 50 represents?
as a smoker i can only say the following....i have put up with this bullshit for the last fifteen years..........now...no more......i just pity the poor clerk who tells me to move along as i am lighting up outside their establishment......this is my rubicon.....i will live or die at this line in the sand....and it will not be pretty............so poolife be carefull who you approach with your but scooper
I don't care about people who smoke, they can smoke all they want just so long as they don't pass their crap to me. I HATE waiting in line for the bus and having all these smokers coming along and I have to breathe in your smoke. I don't get it.... why not just stop puffing for five mins for frack sake?
Thanks Munday but I don't have a problem with people who smoke, just not in my home.
The smokers out in public are very courteous and know not to smoke around the non-smokers and just step away a bit or try not to blow it in your face. (well, most of the time, anyways. )
