well?
I can take them or leave them - probably because some places sell them all the year round.
Nope, not hate here from me towards Hot cross buns.
they usually have currants or dried fruit bits.
I'm not crazy about currants (seeds too crunchy) or mixed dried fruit (too much citrus peel).
There's a chocolate hot cross bun at Cobbs. Those are pretty good.
I don't really eat hot cross buns. Maybe once a year?
Heckyl and Jeckyl like the chocolate ones.
I don't usually buy hot cross buns.
My parents used to buy them when I was a kid (at all times of year). I'd choke one down with LOTS of peanut butter on top, if there was no other bread in the house.
They're OK. Not that I would buy them all the time. Maybe around Easter and that's about it.
I am a HUGE fan of most nice buns!(//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Word_Positive/6.gif)

yes, that's the frustrating part that comes with hot cross buns. you could only bless em once an hour. ;)

I hate hot cross buns but like buns like what VD says..
Alright....enough talk about VD. (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/10.gif)
I love hot-cross buns. I only have them once a year....at Easter. You gotta try them fried. Split em in half, butter....and throw face down in the frying pan until golden. MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM

Thanks for reminding me of this, PC.
The buns Gophie? Or the little song (that my mom used to sing when she made them) (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Sad/9.gif)
The song.
doughnuts
(what are hot cross buns?)
it's red coat food obviously ! I won't eat buns ! Au-dessus de mon corps mort (over my dead body)
I have to say I'm shocked. I never took you for being a bun bigot. That's ok...it doesn't change my opinion of you.......well....a little maybe.
red coat = british?
oooooooh that's why i haven't a clue.
they look like fancy biscuits
okay. got it.
still looks like a fancy biscuit from kfc.
lol I think its british in origin. If so, it would be the only think british that has a presence in culinary "tradition" in Québec that I know of. Which is interesting. The translation for it is "brioche", but a brioche is usually round and flat. Anyway, people all called that stuff "bonnes", which is obviously copied from the English "buns" and means "good" in French.
Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar.
And sometimes a bun is just a bun.
How the two of you can turn everything into a political perspective is beyond me. [img style="CURSOR: pointer" onclick=url(this.src); src="vny!://www.cheesebuerger.de/images/smilie/traurig/a010.gif" border=0]
personalities i guess. lol
i always use it as I'm joking, gets lost in translation over over typing.

"In many historically Christian countries, the buns are traditionally eaten on Good Friday, with the cross standing as a symbol of the crucifixion. They are believed by some to pre-date Chrisitianity although the first recorded use of the term "hot cross bun" is not until 1733. Protestant English monarchs saw the buns as a dangerous hold over of Catholic belief in England being baked from the dough used in making the communion wager. Protestant England attempted to ban the sale of the buns by bakers but they were too popular, and instead Elizabeth 1 passed a law permitting bakeries to sell them, but only at Easter and Christmas. David provides no source for this assertion and it seems to be a myth arising from anti-Catholic bigotry"
Interesting trivia, P.C. Thanks!
Btw, I've never had a Catholic communion wafer, but it doesn't look like you could rise the dough into a bun...
Communion wafers are very similar to rice paper.......and they stick to the roof of your mouth in the same way. I think only the cross is made out of the same unleavened 'whatever it is'.
I do like unleavened bread. I'm a fan of the matzo.
I do as well, Lil Me.
Do you like Lefse ? I love that stuff....more than that, I love preparing it. It's the weirdest stuff.
It's Norwegian isn't it (I've just Googled it), never seen it before.
We are here solely to expand your vocabulary, Michel.

It is Gophie. It comes in squares of dry, brittle hard pieces. You run them under the tap and then cover them with a towel for about 20 minutes.....and they turn into the most velvety soft texture. You spread it with whatever filling you want, roll them up and cut them into medallions. Delish.
Oh cool. Insta-bread!
It's great 'survival' food. Good for camping, or in your earthquake kit....I think it lasts close to forever in its dry state.
Must have been handy on those Viking sea voyages.
Pity they couldn't have reached Arizona, they'd have had supplies through eternity.
ROFL!!!
Usually anywhere they have an international food section or some deli's carry it. I used to get them at the regular grocers, but haven't looked for them there for a while. I get them at a market I go to often.
The brand I get comes in a red box. It looks like this after it is softened.
[img title=Lefse alt=Lefse src="vny!://entrepreneur.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/lefse.jpg" width=200 border=0]
" It looks like a tortilla, but lefse is made from potatoes and butter (or shortening or cream). Also, lefse typically is rectangular, not circular. Most people spread butter on one side, roll it up like a cigar, and eat it. If you have a sweet tooth, sprinkle sugar on the butter. "
I usually fille mine with a really thin spread of cream cheese with some loks and a few capers. MMMMMMMMMMM
graham crackers
graham crackers
Ritz crackers.
Is this the word association game now?
I was following SD's lead. I think it's the 'Random Thoughts' thread now.

they're having hot cross buns for easter at church. sweet.
All I ever got to eat at church was a communion wafer. (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/5.gif)
hmmm the church i go to doesn't do communion, or at least not everyday. Although they did serve me lunch afterwards. cool.
lol
Cob's bakery sent a coupon for two hot cross buns in the mail. Naturally I took advantage of it. They were good! Free is also good!!
That's ok....I switched to restaurants years ago, when I want to dine out. (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)
pssst! If you decide to dine at churches again, there's usually soup and bread in the basement on weeknights. And it's a costume party-of sorts. Wear ragged clothing.

A costume party? What's so special about ragged clothing? I ALWAYS wear it.
But I bet you wear ragged clothes with style and panache.
Now and again - i.e. on special occasions.
For the finest soup kitchens, no doubt.
You've obviously gained in omniscience during your absence.
I spent much time wishing I had a computer, and thinking of all the things I would like to say if I only had a way to say them. I don't think I managed to acquire omniscience, though. Greater perception, perhaps.
I think we gain a little more perception every day, I suppose the great challenge for is is to find a way to make the best use of it that we can.
That is true if the perceptions are positive.
On reflection, they aren''t always so positive, are they? I'd not considered this before.
The negatives can destroy those around you as well as yourself. I'd rather try to stay positive.
Me too.
Just realised that there haven't been many hi-jackings of threads while you've been away!
Hullo miss kitty..
uh my perception of hot cross buns are still negative.
EDIT blast all the additional replies! I cant type that fast!
Hi, Russ. What do you dislike about hot cross buns? Just curious, that's all.
