Title: Memoirs
Post by: P.C. on Jan 21 08 11:43
If you were doing a scrapbook to pass to your future generations, that was to reflect how life was for you as a kid, what things would you include.

This is what I have so far.

  Movies I loved when I was a kid....and those I loved as a grown-up.

Books "    "   "   "   "

Music "   "   "   "   "

Childhood games.

Fashion

Places I've been, place I've lived.

Foods and goodies I liked or didn't....including the goodies/candies of the era.

Prices of things.

Cars I drove

Pics of grandparents, parents, sisters....etc

Hobbies I enjoyed

Things I was good at...things I was bad at.

Schools I went to.

Places we used to shop.

Please add things that you were curious about of your own parents to include in this list ?

Values, dreams, ambitions, embarrassing incidents.

I'll do what my grandparents are doing/did. Tape record their entire life history.

Ooo, those are good Gophie.  Thanks.

That's an option SD...just not what I had in mind.  Aside from doing this (gi-normous) scrapbook, it has been a fun journey looking for all the pics of all the stuff.  I have been surfing the net for days collecting pictures of the books and movies, even pictures of the record albums and games we played.  Sometimes a picture is worth a thousand words.

I would add:

- jewelry they wore
- love letters they wrote to each other (if any)
- cards they gave to each other, drawings they did or had done
- collections they had ie. rocks, stamps, coins, etc
- places they dined
- places they enjoyed peace at
- RECIPES!
- news clippings of events

can't think of anything else now.... I might have more ideas later.

Sounds like a wonderful project, P.C.

I dunno if this is important to you, but my parents and their friends share stories about "where they were" when major events happened, how they heard and how it affected them...i.e. Ironworkers' Memorial Second Narrows Bridge collapse, death of JFK, death of John Lennon, etc.

Thanks purelife.  Some good ones there.

I like that idea too Lil Me.  I actually have some old newspapers of my own, and even some from my parents times of significant events....but I hadn't thought of adding the 'where was I' factor.  I like it, I like it.  (//vny!://discoverseattle.net/forums/richedit/smileys/Happy/12.gif)

I like the one about dining places, purelife.  I happen to come across a pic of my mom and dad at what looks to be a very classy restaurant....and it has written on it....Honeymoon dinner, Montreal.  So this is the kind of stuff I'm after.  I had no idea my parents were ever in Montreal....and if I had the opportunity....these are the things I would ask.

So I'm trying to think of things like that about myself, that may not be very interesting....but that they may wonder about some day.
