Title: Returns
Post by: P.C. on Jan 09 08 09:47
Has anyone been successful returning something to a store without a receipt?

I bought a miniature digital camera that fits on a key-chain.  It's adorable, but a Pez dispenser is sturdier than this thing.  With or without a receipt, shouldn't garbage be returnable regardless?  I feel inconvenienced enough that I even have to bother going back to the store.  I seldom return things, but sometimes I get tired of sucking up the loss.

It is not dying, it is not dying.

I have.  The major dept stores do.  The smaller ones are to the discretion of the employee or manager.  If you make a big enough fuss, they will give you credit.

Never had any problem with large stores, however the smaller 'local' shops can sometimes be a bit awkward - depending on which side they've got out of the bed.

Ditto.  Can return almost anything to HBC/Zellers and Safeway.

Cannot return ANYTHING to StupidStore, even WITH a receipt.

It's always best to return things or make complaints when the shop is full, they can't wait to get rid of you and are always frightened that if they don't give you what you want without even a minor quibble, the other customers will know what sort of service to expect.

Are you an uber-polite returner, or one who demands service, Gophie?  What works?

Ueber polite. (but sometimes I throw in a touch of condescension, however this is only when I know I'm not going back to that place again).

How come Stupidstore doesn't take your returns, LM?

They are pretty strict about the 14 day allowance.

I dunno.  I've never had very good luck with the customer service counter there.

Oh, you can return ANYTHING to Costco.

I agree...Stupidstore's customer service really sucks... they're rude too!

I love Costoc's return policy.   I also found out they had a 45 Day price adjustment.  I saw on their flyer that the weight scale was $8 off original price.  I had purchased one a while ago and had the price adjusted.

Anybody have any "returns" story?

One time, I brought this glass baking dish from Zellers.  I made something with this and all of a sudden, the baking dish started to crack on me when I took it out of the oven.  I have never experienced such a thing before with Pyrex.

So, I returned the thing, without a receipt, to Zellers.  I brought in the broken glasses and told her that I had purchased it from Zellers (which I did) and that this thing just cracked on me.  Their explanation for that was that there was a hairline crack, which I believe was the case.  They gave me a bit of a hard time because I had no receipt, but they did end up giving me a refund.  That was a long time ago.

My friend groaned to the Safeway worker that the garbage can he bought the week before was now $20 off.  The guy opened the cash register and gave him a $20 bill.  Seriously.  (but this was years ago)

I complained a Safeway about the quality of my last lettuceI bought, they gave me the lettuce in my present order free.  The only returns I have from Christmas go to Costco so I won't have any problems other then line-ups.

The only thing I'm going to return from Xmas is a sweatshirt at Sears.  I have a gift receipt, so there won't be a problem.
(it's a regular purple sweatshirt, sized Ladies M, but it's a veeeeery large M.  It would fit a medium elephant)

I'm BACK.  I had no problem.  I'm pleasantly surprised.  They gave me an in store credit (Winners, which can also be used at Homesense).  I was definitely okay with that, as I shop there a lot.

I have no Christmas returns.  The little camera was actually a gift I was planning to GIVE as a present.  It looked great in the packaging.  I'm glad I decided to take it out and have a look at it, because it sure wasn't something I would give as a gift.

Pls wish me luck.  The $79 vacuum cleaner I bought at StupidStore TODAY has a defective cord reel assembly.  The cord won't go back in.  At all.  I'm gonna try to exchange it tomorrow.

I'm dreading it.  But since I only bought the thing yesterday, I'm prepared to rant and rave.

There must have been something wrong in the world for there not to have been a lineup for returns.

What type of vacuum was it if you dont mind me asking?

I wish I could return this airmattress I bought for this weekend.. brand new so I didnt bother bringing a spare. Got up there, took it out of the package, blew it up, and woke up a few hours later on the  ground.. grr. At least the starfish was still up onthe airmattress beside me.. lol.

$79 Fantom stick vac.  Supposed to be the same power as a full size vac.  Probably is as long as you keep the dirt cup empty.

The automatic cord winder broke the first time I used it. Replacement model is fine- I'm being careful not to pull the cord out too far.  lol

I'm so slow that I finally did my returns for duplicate X'mas presents at Costco last week.  There was a long line-up put I got my cash back.  Where else could you wait so long?
